(VHB)has received a revised plan from Mr.Richard Arnone dated November 24,20O3 for the above referenced project. The revision Lo the plan includes a proposed driveway realignment;both horizontally and vertically. VflBo[hers the following comments: 1. This plan should he stamped bva registered rivJ engineer UcenaudiuMooaucboeetto. 2. Although the Town Zoning Bylaw and Subdivision Rules and Regulations donot appear to have design criteria for driveway design, the Massachusetts Highway Department(MHD)has driveway design criteria. Specifically,MHD mUon'o the driveway vertical profile tn range between 1U%and 15%. The Applicant ia proposing a driveway with u slope ranging 6rozn15% to12% for the majority o6 the driveway length. Although a driveway slope of 15%is not desirable,it is acceptable if MDHD standards are being applied. 3. Given the 6ozbcootul curvature of the proposed driveway in combination with the steep driveway slope, negotiating the driveway will he difficult, especially during winter r000da. 4. The plan indicates that the driveway will be'cut'into the existing hill. Surface water will likely runoff the adjacent hill and onto the driveway surface. During winter months, this runoff has the potential tnfreeze. Would the Applicant considered any driveway-side treatments, such as a ditch/swale or subdrain, to help keep the runoff off the surface of the road? 5 The revised plan shows that the new location of the driveway'mouth' is located at Great Pond Road. Vl{B recommends that the Applicant determine the existing sight distance along Great Pond Road ot the proposed driveway location. 6. The plan indicates that a new catch basin is proposed to be constructed over an existing '10-inch clay pipe at the bottom of the proposed driveway. VHB recommends that the existing clay pipe to the west and east of the proposed catch basin be replaced with a 12-iucb reinforced pipe (K[y). lolNu|nut Street Post Office Box mn Watertown, wv`mchmeusoz*rl'nlsl 60Z924770 " FAX 6924.2286 xu"°"uu°m'wou°u"x",°v",",'=",n°«'moo4,a" email: info@vhbzom wnwxhbzom Julie Parrino Project No.: 06716.82 March 11, 2004 Page 2 As you are aware,VHB has approached our estimated review budget for this project.
