Re: Addition Proposal
Central Metal Finishing Inc./Electroplating Realty Trust
80 Flagship Drive
1
Attn: Ms. Kathleen Colwell, Town Planner
Dear Kathleen:
i
In support of the above referenced proposal I wish to bring the following information to
the attention of the Planning Board. The existing one story facility consists of 12,700 SF
of office and manufacturing areas. It was originally constructed in 1981 for a company
called Micromatic Inc., a'precision machine shop which has since relocated to Haverhill
Central Metal Finishing leased the property in 1989 and has since acquired it. The
company provides electroplating services to customers in the aerospace, automobile,
medical, and commercial markets. The proposal calls for construction of 9,500 SF of
space to expand their plating process, waste treatment and shipping & receiving areas.
There will also be additional parking and a storm drainage system designed to current
performance'standards. The facility will have the following characteristics of use:
1. Personnel & Hours of Operation: The company presently employees 50 persons
and anticipates a total of approximately 65. Hours consist of two shifts starting at
7:00 A.M. and ending at 12:00 midnight on weekdays. iThere is occasional work
on Saturday mornings. The maximum shift is 35 employees.
2. Deliveries: The business is served by 3-4 commercial trucks each week during
business hours. There is no tractor trailer traffic associated with normal
operations.
I
3. Environmental: Central Metal Finishing is an environmentally progressive
company which has installed a completely self-contained waste treatment system.
As such they operate as a water-recycling location under a permit from the Greater
Lawrence Sanitary District. There is no process related discharge of any kind
into the Willows Industrial Park Sewer System. The facility is also inspected on a
regular basis by representatives of the Federal Environmental Protection Agency
and the site has recently been certified as environmentally in order via a 2IE study.
The facility also maintains air quality standards with appropriate ventilation
equipment.

4. Noise&Lighting: The facility does not operate equipment with noise levels other
than those normally associated with industry standard roof top ventilation units.
New equipment will not differ in any way from that already in use. The company
has historically responded to the concerns of residential abutters by keeping
exterior lighting at the rear of the building to a minimum. This practice will be
continued.
5. Materials: The existing steel frame building has a 1,700 SF business office wing
sided in red brick with a tan colored metal panel fascia. The 1 1,000 SF
manufacturing area is clad in a matching metal panel. The addition will be sided
with a matching metal panel.
I look forward to presenting this proposal to your Board on September 5th. In the interim
I would like to encourage any abutters or interested parties seeking further information to
contact myself or company President Carol Shibles, at 685-4811.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
James Bourgeois,RA
