Dear Mr. Petrozelli:
I have been able to discuss the issues of the crosswalk and pedestrian light with Safety
Officer, Sergeant Fred Soucy and feel that the installation of a frilly functional pedestrian
activated traffic light at the location of the crosswalk is warranted. Understanding that
Fire Chief Dolan has issues with this type of signal light, it is still my opinion that such an
installation would enhance the safety of school children, parishioners and pedestrians in
the area of Saint Michael's Church and School.
Sergeant Soucy suggests a crosswalk be installed with thermoplastic markings on Main
Street from the area of the pa,king lot nearest Second Street to the entrance of the one
way driveway of the new church. This would also be the location of the pedestrian
activated light. The location of the crosswalk will safely allow students, parishioners and
pedestrians to cross Main Street from the parking areas and the school, to the Church side
of Main Street without having to cross the one way entrance.
The installation of the fully functional pedestrian activated light would significantly
increase pedestrian safety, especially during school hours. If you have any further
clt.IestiolIS or comments on this matter, please fecal free to call me.
Sincer
