This proposal was previously discussed at the Traffic Advisory Committee and I have personally addressed this situation with Father Paul Keyes. The fire department is opposed to the installation of such a light since it can cause delays in fire and ambulance response. Fire equipment must stop at red lights and then may proceed with caution. The response route from the Main St. station is up Main. St, past St. Micheal's. If that traffic signal were installed and activated vehicle Traffic would stop and delay response. Activation of this signal would not be controlled and anyone at anytime could activate the signal causing traffic to stop. The purpose of this pedestrian light is to allow school children to cross. If the entire school building is to be on one site then what is the purpose of the light. If the fire station is relocated from its present location on Main St. we would not be opposed. We support the construction of a new school building which will have increased fire safety which the old structure does not have but we do not wish to delay response to any persons in need of fire or emergency medical services due to the installation of this traffic light. Please contact Lt. Melnikas or me if you have any questions regarding this matter. Respectfully, William.V. Dolan Fire Chief Cc: Father Paul Keyes Mr. Angelo Petrozelli Lt.
