Introduction Quiet Study 420 925 926
Planning for program accommodation and function takes advantage of the natural Sub Totals:

the enlarged facility. Both the existing and proposed entrances are integral elements of the
circulation scheme; appropriate recognition and-continued use of the original formal Children's Library
entrance, without compromise in convenience or security,is a feature of the plan.

The proposed addition provides the larger scale flexible spaces which the current facility l6 48 4g
lacks, enabling spacious accommodation of primary uses with re-use of original spaces for Seats
appropriate functions of lesser scale which require a degree of separate identity or privacy
The new spaces surrounding the rotunda are of a scale which will complement this focal
space, while augmenting the experience of both the historic formal public architecture and Staff Areas
the park view. Major windows proposed for the new south elevation and a skylight zone

the vocabulary of the original design. The additions of the 1969s provide a secondary Kitchenette
scale which will be extended and linked so as to incorporate these elements into a more
resolved and completed form framing the larger scale of the rotunda and new reading room Sub Totals:

Program requirements for space, volumes and seating have been achieved within the total
area originally projected,as set forth in the following summary:
