Dear Michelle:
Please accept this letter as a request to be placed on the next Board of Health agenda for
consideration of the following
The owners of 100 Raleigh Tavern Lane would like to add a finished basement to their existing
seven(7)room home. The home currently has three(3)bedrooms on the second floor and four
(4)rooms on the first floor(kitchen,dining room, living room and family room). They would
like to add three(3)rooms in the basement which would include a bedroom,an office area, and
a family room.One additional room in the basement will not have a window so therefore it is
not a room as defined under Title 5 section 15.002 definitions,Bedroom.
When the owner adds the additional rooms in the basement the total number of rooms in the
home would amount to ten,which would require a five(5)bedroom system design.
The existing septic system was repaired in 2004 and can accommodate four(4)bedrooms.The
repair was done as a local upgrade approval and there is no opportunity to expand the system to
accommodate additional bedrooms in compliance with Title 5. This system recently passed a
Title 5 system inspection. (Submitted to BOH by Soucy's)
The purpose of the meeting in front of the Board of Health would be to request that the owner
be allowed to add additional rooms with the stipulation that a deed restriction be recorded
against the property limiting the number of bedrooms to four(4)as allowed by Title 5 section
15.002 definition of Bedroom.
The purpose of adding the rooms in the basement is to provide a spare bedroom for guests,a
second living area which would be used primarily as a children's play area,and an area for a
home office for one of the occupants who works from home. There are no plans to add
additional residents to the home.
The owners and I will be in attendance at the meeting to discuss this matter. Proposed floor
plans are attached and if you have any questions prior to the meeting please do not hesitate to
