Meeting commenced at 7:05 PM. Lisa Conti recorded minutes Accept last month’s minutes II. March minutes accepted Old Business III. Review action items from March minutes Talked about the four signs for household hazardous waste day a. (~$20/sign). Will fund with Got Books money. Good job Debbie on the signs and she will look for ~$80 reimbursement. Action item:Signs will be placed by Bruce and Steve P. at the following locations: Main street/Route 125 (near middle school) 1. Near Fire Station (crossroad Salem and Johnson St. 2. Mass Ave and Waverly 3. Sharpeners Pond and Route 114 4. Recycling container options for Thompson Brothers. Mass Recycle has some different b. “bumper” stickers. Will use the Grant money to fund. Tina thinks there are some stickers still Action item: Bruce will look left at the DPW. We need resident count to figure out how many bags to purchase. We ran out by a. 10:30am last year and don’t want that to happen again. Resident count is not as important for the snacks. Whole foods will donate the snacks, Norm and Steve will coordinate pickup and delivery. Will order 400, 30-40 gallon, 2.5 to 3 mil bags; we have enough gloves left over from previous years. School Athletic organization doing own pickup of the high school fields this weekend, so b. we can mark off our list. Mass Highway is responsible to state roads (e.g., Route 125 and 114) but we may want to c. assign people to these roads anyway because they are highly visible. Call Tina for curbside pick-up by 3:00 on Saturday. d. Earth Day clean up (continued) Action item: Lisa volunteered her neighborhood (Laconia Circle, e. Equestrian Drive, Crossbow Lane, Olympic Lane, parts of Salem Street. Will get back to Norm with the numbers and specifics towards the middle of the month. Norm will provide coordinators name of adjacent area so Lisa may coordinate activities. Action item: Tinawill order 20 trash picker uppers for people to borrow f. the day of the event; will use the Got Books money will try online or local company. Try to keep it ~$10/each. Action Item: Steve will get information on cable, Martha will g.Lets advertise! send reminders to the Eagle Tribune and Debbie will get word in the Monday Minutes to announce and promote our upcoming activities in the schools . h.Add on: Windrush Farm on Brookview in Boxford (Lacy Street in North Andover turns into Brookview) is having their barn clean up that May 3rd. May want to get some information from them and include it with our efforts. Lisa can find out more information, if needed. Committee Charter postponed till next meeting TBI had some trouble with permits, meeting with lawyers and are now close to an agreement. Weekly, single stream recycling pickup should start some time in June. Will work the business into the collection possibly in the Fall. We need time to evaluate a. the output from the neighborhood collections on a weekly basis first. Picking up at business is win-win for everybody, just a matter of timing; they will be rolled in later. TBI is a private Action item: Steve will follow hauler. Might be nice to get rid of our current contractor for this service and just have one. Bruce mentioned he would like to get it out of the DPW. We can use the sticker program for curbside pickup along with the weekly trash. New Business IV. The next edition of One Persons Trash will be coordinated by Karen. It will be published the first week of July, due in June. Articles to be included are: Alternative energy sources (solar, wind turbines, etc.). A local contractor who did the a. work at Smolak (Nextgen) might be a good resource. –Karen provided this information. Showcase some North Andover residents who are using this technology. b. Provide some options for residents to take advantage of some affordable alternative c. energy sources Clean energy choices. You buy kilowatts, MA collaborative matches up to 70% (goes into a community kitty for renewable energy source use) plus you are eligible for a tax credit (75% deduction) Action item: Steve will look Steve mentioned getting solar panels on some schools. a. into examples from other schools. Bruce mentioned that the DPW and Water Treatment plant may also be an option for a b. solar installation. Susan will also print up some flyers she found at the library and distribute th on April 19. The committee agreed that there are lots of programs out there we just need to raise d. awareness. The electric and gas companies are a good first resource for residents. May want to add to website. Committee to think about relevance of links. Coordinators are needed for multi-family and public space recycling efforts. Adjourn V. th Next scheduled meeting: Thursday, May 8at the DPW conference room.
