NASWAC Meeting Minutes
November 13, 2008

Attendees: Tina Klein, Chair; Steve Daly, Vice-Chair; Bruce Thibodeau, DPW Director,
Norm Bagley, Lisa Conti, Judy Walker, Karen Kline, Susan Almono, Steve Parkes, Peter
Murley, Martha Mittlestaedt.

a)Guest speaker from Reading(MA)CCP(Cities for Climate Protection)–

i)Readingagreed to form a climate committee about 3 years ago

iii)CCP is an off-shoot of ICLEI (int’lcounsel for local environmental
initiatives)
iv)Reading joined ICLEI for $600/yr –allowed access to software for
greenhouse gases and help with implementation of the 5 milestone program
(1)Perform Greenhouse Gas Inventory
(2)Set goal (Reading –regional greenhouse gas reduction 20% by 2020
(3)Action Plan –set up with other organizations or committees
(4)Implement plan
(5)Annual progress

i)Bruce went to a meeting with Mark Rees and Supt. Marini
ii)Steve Fortado & schools put together an action plan for schools
iii)Rees and Marini want action plans for all municipal buildings
iv)Chance to change charter for NASWAC
v)Bruce to send action plan to committee members(target date?)
vi)Meeting with Lisa and Tina –Dec 1st

a)School Recycling Update
i)Lisa discussed Sargent school waste audit
(1)Tarps out for paper, plastic, trash
(2)About 40% of the trash could have been recycled by weight
(3)Not a lot of contaminants in the recycling
(4)Kids seemed to enjoy
