Nicetta, Chairman; John B. Osgood, Secretary; James N. Barman, N~w~d G~lm~- and
Robert J. B~rke.
Mr. Herbert Weiland was present, by request of the Chairman, to assist in
dividing the Town into federal census tracts for a 10-year period. Mr. Weiland
stated that +~ particular census had nothing to do with the State census.
It was stated that the entire Greater Lawrence area will be tracted for census
taking. The T~wa tracte will be em an average of four thousand people. When eom-
pleted, these will be sent te Washington where they will become the official con-
sas tracts. The p~oose of this census is to establish a permanent area from ~e
census to the next.
Mr. Weiland pointed out the size of the tract ~is of great importance, and he
felt a small oue w~uld be adequate, such as a section of t~he Towa that is fafrly
well stabilized with approximately two or three tracts in the vicinity of ~OO
people in each. Oae tract including the business district will be the largest.
He explained it is imperative to have a boundary that can be follo.~d, such as, a
street, railroad tracks, brook, et~.
Mr. Weiland affe~ed to dra~ up the tract map free of charge.
The meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
