HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-10-06 Kittredge School Council Minutes Meeting: October 6, 1994 3:30-5:15 Kittredge School Present Winnie Bowersox Diane Carney Bette Ann Coyle Kathy Flanagan Barbara Grasso Lori Sorkin Absent Laurie Rottler The minutes for the October 6 meeting are as follows. Community Rep Search The need for a community representative for school council and how to approach a search were discussed. Bette Ann Coyle will write a description of the position. This may be included in Newsaroos to aid the search and could also be used as a handout when approaching local businesses. Safety Awareness Barbara Grasso gave a status report on the "Kids and Company Together For Safety" program investigation. The "Brighter Tales" program is scheduled for Oct. 26 & 27. Bill of Rights Kathy Flanagan presented the Kittredge "Bill of Rights" which is the Discipline/Behavior Management Plan developed by the staff. This will be introduced to the students during an assembly on October 13. The plan has been submitted to the state. Handbook Diane Carney gave a status report on the handook and distributed a copy of drafted sections. A meeting with staff members participating in the handbook development is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 3:30PM. Election Two new staff representatives will be joining Kittredge School Council: Karen Harvey and Lori Sorkin. They have begun working with the current council members. An election for new parent representatives will be held this fall. The process for election will be modeled after last year's. The plan is for new representatives to have the opportunity to work with current members for a time to provide continuity in the transition. Other Business Bette ~n Coyle gave a project update on adding art work to the front lobby with the assistance of parent Donna Ellison. School Improvement Plan 1994-1995 The council reviewed specific activities and subgoals from two sources: staff and last year's needs assessment. The council then assigned each a System Wide Annual Goal: 1)Responsive Curriculum, 2) Professional Growth/Staff Development, 3) Collaboration, and 4) School Culture, 5)Mass. Education Reform Act, or 6) Structure of the School System. Diane Carney will organize this information and distribute it to council members before the next meeting to enhance the development of the SIP. Next Meeting The next school council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday October 25, 1994, 7:00PM, Kittredge School. The agenda will primarily be the development of the School Improvement Plan 1994-1995. Submitted by Diane Carney
