Special Meeting
The PLANNI~ BOARD held a special meeting on Monday evening, January 25,
1971 in the Fire Station meeting room at 7:30 P.M. with the following members
present and voting: William Chepulis, Jr., Chairman; John J. Monteiro,
Secretary$ Charles W. Trombly, Jr., Vice Chairman$ and Donald N. Keirstead.
This was a combined meetingwith the P.A.C. Others present were as follows:
Ben Osgood, Fritz Ostherr, Henry Fink, John J. Lynch, Henry Green, Joseph
Guthrie, Richard Baldwin and Louis Kmiec.
This meeting was called to discuss changes, recommendations, etc. on the material
submitted byJohnBrown relative to business zoning changes by the P.A.C.
The P.A.C. feels there should be no special permits and they think one gas station
per Business III district is adequate.
Mr. Chepulis explained that the present General Business zone would reme~i~ a part
of the Zoning By-Law and any other busLuess districts would be in addition.
Ben Osgood said 12 P.A.C. members attended their meeting last week to discuss
the proposals.
One of the things they would like to ask John Brown is why he excluded restaurants;
where should they be allowed? by special permits? A lengthy discussion was held
on whether or not there should be special permits and whether these things should
be left up to the Board of Appeals. They felt kennels should be specified as
indoor boar~ing kennels. They would like to get rid of the present section
allowing motels anywhere - Business ~ district would be the logical place.
There could possibly be a new district - public accommodations and drinking and
eating.
The PlamuingBoard feels that the present ~ndustrial regulations are ~11 right
for the time being.
The P.A.C. feels that automobile dealer and sales buildings should be allowed.
Mr. Keirstead discussed changing the roadways that come at angles to l14& 125
and having 100 foot setbacks to allow for widening of the highways and possibly
service reads parallel to the highways. They questioned why ~ persons were
allowed per parking space for theaters, etc. And who determines note#l?
After lengthy discussion of the various items it was decided to contact John
Brown to see if it was convenient for him to meet with everyone on Monday,
Feb. 1st at 8:OOP.M. If it is all right, the Plan~ing Board will meet at 7:00
P.M. to take care of their regular business and then meet with John Brown at
8:00P.M.
The meeting adjourned at 10:O0 P.M.
