Dear Dawn and David:
It is our pleasure to analyze the solar energy potential for your home. As you will see in this
proposal, solar hot water technologies are available to significantly reduce your oil bill. I have
included the option of financing the purchase with a low-interest Green Loan from our banking
partner.
The system will be"interactive" which means that it will operate seamlessly with your current
hot water service. The system is designed to operate with little maintenance. When the sun
comes out, the solar collectors heat up and transfer this heat to your water supply line. The solar
heated water is stored in a solar storage tank that supplies preheated water to your conventional
hot water system. When the sun is not shining, your hot water system will function as it does
now. The system is seamless and so you will not notice any difference in the function of your hot
water system except that you will have more hot water available.
In a time when oil prices are increasing daily, an investment in solar energy is forward-looking

STRUCTURAL REPORT
We have reviewed the proposed installation of rooftop solar panels for the referenced building.
The existing roof structure is wood sheathing on 2x8 roof rafters at 16"oc., spanning an average 12 feet
(horizontal),with closer spacing for the largest spans. We checked the stresses in the rafters and found
that the roof framing is capable of supporting the dead load plus live (snow) loads required by the
Massachusetts State Building Code,with the added weight of up to 4 psf for the solar panels. The panels
must be attached to the roof structure as required by the panel manufacturer to resist uplift and sliding
forces.
