From a field inspection of the property, the existing roof support structure consists of nominal 2"x10" rafters that are spaced at 16"oc, paired with 2"x8: ceiling joists. The rafters have a horizontal span of approximately 14'-6" and a slope of 36 degrees. The rafters are connected to a continuous 2"x12" header board at the pitch, and load bearing walls on either side. There are 2"x4" collar ties at 32"oc for structural stability. The roof coverings consist of asphalt shingles over plywood sheathing. The existing roof framing systems are judged to be adequate to withstand the loadings imposed by the installation of the solar panels. No reinforcement is necessary. The spacing of the solar attachments should be 48"oc at maximum with a staggered pattern to ensure proper distribution of loads. I further certify that all applicable loads required by IRC 2009 with Massachusetts amendments were applied to the SnapNrack solar rail system and analyzed. The applicable loads are indicated in the load combination table and the summation of maximum loads indicated on permit plan, which is part of this submittal package. Furthermore, I was informed that the installation crews have been thoroughly trained to install the solar panels based on the specific roof installation instructions developed by AEE Solar for the racking system, and by Sunpower for the roof connections. Finally, I accept the certifications indicated by the solar panel manufacturer for the ability of the panels to withstand high wind and snow loads. I admire your commitment to having a more energy efficient home. Here is your formal proposal for your new solar PV system. Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions you may have. Notes: • Based on the utility bills you supplied, in the last 12 months you consumed 13,230 kWh and currently pay $0.13 cents per kWh. Your utility provider is National Grid. • Included in the gross price of the system is relocating the vent pipe on your south-facing roof in order to maximize the usable space for a solar PV installation. •The solar modules utilized in your new PV system are high-quality, US-made solar modules. They are high-quality solar modules with a positive power-tolerance, black frames and a black back sheet. •The system utilizes Enphase Microinverter technology to reduce the effect of array shading. This also is the same cost as two central inverters that would be needed for the 37 modules, so it is seen as a very wise investment. 9.25kW Photovoltaic system: - SolarWorld 250 watt All-Black modules,7Enphase M215 Microinverters, and all 1 necessary balance of system materials(racking, wiring, disconnects, etc.). Based on your consumption, this system will allow you to produce approximately 71%of your electricity yourself. Environmental Savings Over its 30 year anticipated life-cycle, it will generate more than 263,000 kWh of energy from the sun. In that time it will save 181 metric tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere, equivalent to: •the annual greenhouse gas emissions from taking 36 cars off the road for one year, •or the carbon sequestered annually by 39 acres of pine or fir forests. System Monitoring Included in your solar PV system installation will be our SunWatch Meter (www.su nwatch meter.com). This monitor allows you to track your system performance in real time from your computer, and allows us to make sure that all is working properly. You will have the ability to monitor your PV system's production and your home's electricity consumption with the SunWatch Meter monitoring system. The Enphase Enlighten monitoring software suite will provide a per-panel production monitoring that will allow you to see the performance of each panel in your solar array. Solar savings reduce your annual electricity consumption and your remaining costs of electricity can be offset by SREC revenue. In fact, in its first year, solar savings plus SREC revenue at the minimum level of$300/SREC will cover an anticipated 225%. Photovoltaic Incentives and Return on Investment On-going Revenue: Solar Renewable Energy Credits The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources runs a Solar Credit Market. This program offers an on-going production incentive for making solar energy, above and beyond electricity savings. For every megawatt hour(MWh) of electricity produced, system owners earn one SREC, or Solar Renewable Energy Credit, which are then sold to back the electric utilities needing to meet state solar energy mandates. SRECs behave like stock certificates. They are bought an sold on a market administered by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources. An SREC does not represent electricity itself-solar system owners make their own electricity and experience the associated utility savings independent of the SREC program. SRECs are an additional financial incentive for Photovoltaic electricity producers. SRECs are bought and sold on an open market. However, there are price support mechanisms put in place by the DOER to create a ceiling and floor values for SRECs. The ceiling is determined by the fine levied on utilities for not meeting the solar standard. This is called the Alternative Compliance Payment(ACP) and for 2011 is set at$550 per megawatt hour(or SREC). The floor is established by the DOER's Solar Credit Clearinghouse, an auction of last resort should an SREC not sell. This Solar Credit Clearinghouse values SRECs at$300 each. The DOER has established an "opt-in term"for that Clearinghouse, based on when a PV system was installed. The current opt-in term is 10 years.
