The purpose of the assessment was to visually verify that the subgrade appeared adequate for supporting the. proposed structure and backfills. This letter is a report of our findings. Site Observations Upon arrival at the site on April 25, 2006, it was observed that the base of the excavation of the building footprint had been lined with geotextile filter fabric, approximately 12 inches of 3/4 Crushed Stone had been placed on the fabric, and the filter fabric had been wrapped over the top of the Crushed Stone, in accordance with our recommendations. One area of approximately 25 square feet in the vicinity of the northern corner of the building footprint appeared to be unstable. Upon excavation, it was observed that the subgrade soils within this area had formed a "balloon" up into the Crushed Stone. Less than 6 inches of Crushed Stone was observed overlying the bottom filter fabric. This area was exposed on April CORPORATE OFFICE: 100 SHEFFIELD RD. • P.O. A new sheet of filter fabric was placed over the newly excavated area to overlap the existing filter fabric, and Crushed Stone was placed into the excavation to the elevation of the surrounding Crushed Stone layer. The repaired area was rolled with a Hypac model C830B drum (machine weight 13,500 pounds) and the upper filter fabric sheet again overlain. The subgrade in this area appeared to be stable and adequate for supporting the proposed structure. Geotechnical Assessment It is our opinion that the subgrade soil conditions at the base of the excavation of Lot 15 required stabilization prior to placing backfill to the design grades. Based on our observations of April 26, it is our opinion that the subgrade soils were adequately stabilized in accordance with the recommendations of our April 25, 2006 letter, prior to placing backfill to the. design grades.
