Andover Building Dept. 1600 Osgood Street N. Andover, MA 01845 Dear Mr. Belanger, I have inspected the present conditions the basement at 2 Union Street. It is my understanding that the new finished basement slab will be approximately 16"lower than the existing floor. The pits dug to 4' below existing floor elevation were done so for future lally columns. I have informed the builder that the pad footing for columns do not need to be 4'-0"below slab,and that he should backfill with compacted, crushed stone to allow for a 10"deep,24"x24"pad footing. I examined the issues of water infiltration. Although I did not conduct extensive testing, after reviewing the history of water in the pits with the builder it seems very likely that the water is not coming from the water table,but from a leaking sewer waste line. The builder informed me that he intended to have the plumber replace existing subsurface waste line with a new PVC pipe. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me. The 2-1/2 Story residence currenly has water rA infiltration in the basement. The existing basements supported by a perimeter stone foundation, wooden beams and steel lolly columns. Due to the drainage/moisture problems currently present in the building the proposed work will include a new reinforced tq concrete stem wall to be under-pinned to the existing f stone wall. In addition temporary supports will need to be used in order to demolish the existing concrete slab, lolly columns and sub-soil excavation. New piers for the lolly columns will be poured flush with the new elevation of the � � f ✓ basement slab. All utilities and services will be upgraded and re-located ,l f;•-' w .- into a central area within the basement. Waterproofing/damproofing along with rigid insulation will be applied to the exiting pp foundation wall the new slab and r new stem wall. All existing windows will remain. The existing chimney will be demolished. Masonry bricks to be g salvaged. Stairs will be demolished and re-built to occomodate the new basement clear height of 8 feet. The existing bulkhead will be demolished and replace to meet > `�� the new slab height.
