From a field inspection of the property, the existing MP1 roof support structure consists of nominal 2"x10" rafters that are spaced at 16"oc, paired with 2"x8"ceiling joists. The rafters have a span of 14'-9"and a slope of 36 degrees. The rafters are connected to a continuous 2"x12" header board at the pitch, and load bearing walls on either side. There are 2"x6" collar ties at 32" oc for structural stability. The roof coverings consist of asphalt shingles over wood sheathing. The existing roof framing systems are judged to be adequate to withstand the loadings imposed by the installation of the solar panels. No reinforcement is necessary. The spacing of the standoffs should be kept at 32" oc with a staggered pattern. I further certify that all applicable loads required by IRC 2009 with Massachusetts amendments were applied to the SolarCity solar rail system and analyzed. The applicable loads are indicated in the load combination table and the summation of maximum loads indicated on permit plan sheet PV-4,which is part of this submittal package. Furthermore, the installation crews have been thoroughly trained to install the solar panels based on the specific roof installation instructions developed by SolarCity for the racking system and for the roof connections. Finally, I accept the certifications indicated by the solar panel manufacturer for the ability of the panels to withstand high wind and snow loads.
