From a field inspection of the property, the existing roof support structures were observed as follows: The roof structure of(MPI)consists of composition shingle on roof plywood that is supported by nominal 2x8 rafters @ 16"o.c.,paired with nominal 2x8 ceiling joists @ 16"o.c..The rafters have a max projected horizontal span of 14'-0", with a slope of 32 degrees. The rafters are connected at the ridge to a continuous 2x10 ridge board r hip rafters, and are supported at the eave by a load bearing wall. There are 2x4 collar ties @ 32"o.c.for structural stability. The existing roof framing system of(MP1)is judged to be adequate to withstand the loading imposed by the installation of the solar panels. No reinforcement is necessary. The spacing of the solar standoffs should be kept at 48"o.c.with a staggered pattern to ensure proper distribution of loads. I further certify that all applicable loads required by the codes and design criteria listed below were applied to the Roof7rac solar rail system and analyzed. Furthermore, the installation crews have been thoroughly trained to install the solar panels based on the specific roof installation instructions developed by Roof7rac for the racking system and TTI for the roof connections. Finally,I accept the certifications indicated by the solar panel manufacturer for the ability of the panels to withstand high wind and snow loads. Design Criteria: • Applicable Codes=Massachusetts Residential Code,8th Edition,ASCE 7-05,and 2005 NDS • Roof Dead Load=8 psf(MP1) • Roof Live Load=20 psf • Wind Speed= 100 mph, Exposure C • Ground Snow Load=50 psf - Roof Snow Load=31.5 psf Please contact me with any further questions or concerns regarding this project. (AME) has completed load-testing Quick Mount PV system anchors for shear and tensile strength. The purpose of our testing was to evaluate the tensile and shear load capacity of the Quick Mount PV system in a high density(Douglas Fir) and a low density wood (Cedar). SAMPLE DESCRIPTION Twelve (12) 12"x12" samples with 2-1/4" X 3-1/8" Unirac Angle were delivered to our laboratory on April 26, 2009; six each for Douglas Fir and Cedar. A copy of the installation instructions is provided in Appendix A. Typical sample photo is provided in Appendix B. PROCEDURES & RESULTS Since an acceptance criterion (AC)has not been developed for this product, the samples were tested under the direction of Mr. Yamil Moya, P.E. with ICC-ES, and in general accordance with applicable procedures outlined in ASTM D 1761 and AC 13. a. Tensile Strength Three samples each of the two types of wood were tested for tensile strength on April 28, 2009 using a United Universal testing machine. Samples were rigidly attached to the testing machine and a tensile load was applied to the Unirac Angle at a displacement rate 0.1 inches per minute without shock until failure. Detailed results are provided in Table 1. Based on these results, the average tensile strength of the hanger bolt in Douglas Fir and Cedar wood species were determined to be 2554 lbf and 1355 lbf, respectively. Samples were rigidly attached to the testing machine and a shear load was applied to Unirac Angle at a displacement rate 0.1 inches per minute without shock until failure. Detailed results are provided in Table Il. Based on these results, the average shear strength of the hanger bolt in Douglas Fir and Cedar wood species were determined to be 2203 lbf and 1957 lbf, respectively. WEEBs eliminate the need for older, more costly grounding methods and greatly reduce the amount of labor and materials used in installations. The innovative WEEB design removes the need to run ground wire to each individual module and eliminates the need for surface preparation on anodized aluminum components. To install, WEEBs are placed between PV modules and mounting rails at clamping points or at bolted connections. When anti-seize is applied and the hardware is tightened down to the appropriate torque spec, the WEEBs' specialized teeth embed into anodized aluminum, galvanized steel, or any electrically conductive metal to establish a gas tight electrical connection. s • Material: 304 stainless steel • Listed to ANSI-UL 467 by Intertek ETL for use in Canada and the USA • Maximum electrical equipment ground conductor size when used with 2 WEEBs contacting each module in an assembly: 6 AWG • Outdoor rated Solar Module Frame Solar Module Frame WEEB DPF WEEB 9.5 Mounting Rail Mounting Rail Contact us at: 845.247.4708 www.we-llc.com • s 0s ( 'x , ER ' 9' 3 1 Ile+ ; Ultra Flexible Roof Tile Adhesive/Sealant Prevents Roof Leaks and Broken Tile 1 e Q IN' Y A USTER bWFlexible Ruo1 T14 AdhesivefSea(arf ROOF TILE I SHINGLES 1 SHEET METAL I FLASHING I VENTS I GUTTERS I TRIM I NEW CONSTRUCTION I REPAIRSSwum, T 1rrNip,Evftm wnacoo Roofs are on the front line in preventing water intrusion lo.
