Re: Sewer tie-in
Dear Mrs. and Mr. Bringert:
Telephone (978) 688-9540
Fax(978)688-9542
This correspondence is in regards to the sewer tie-in and septic abandonment at your
home, 817 Salem Street. As you may recall, last June you came to the Board of Health to
ask for some assistance in determining if you have municipal sewer available to your
home. This is a follow-up to that meeting. I am sorry that so much time has passed
before you are receiving this. In a recent review of my to do lists, I noticed that this
notification had not been sent.
As directed at the meeting I contacted Tim Willett of the Department of Public Works,
who had the following information. Mr. Willett stated that the home at 817 Salem Street
has had sewer available for a couple of years. However, he cannot confirm that the
owner in fact received the notice sent by the DPW to this address. Sewer availability
notifications are not sent by certified mail.
Therefore, the Health Department will grant you an extension of (6) six months from this
date to complete your sewer tie-in. Completion of the tie-in is to be done by June 2001.
If you have any questions regarding this extension or if you have already complied with
the tie-in requirement feel free to contact the Health Department with your comments or
information. For information regarding the procedures for obtaining a permit to tie into
the sewer you should contact the DPW, at 685-0950.

The Health Department has been supplied with a list of all residences, currently on
septic, which have access to the municipal sewer system. Your property was listed
as having access as of Tune 2000 due to the completion of the new sewer in your
area. This office was notified that you were sent information from the Department
of Public Works informing you of your status and the tie-in regulation. As
previously published at a Public Heating on March 17, 1994, the Board of Health
has adopted regulations concerning the required sewer tie -mi. The following
timetable concerning your property status was adopted:
4.1 All establishments that currently do not have munieiCal se,✓er ayailale
to them roust connect to the sewer as soon as it becomes available, with a
maximum time limit of six months.
The purpose of these regulations is to safeguard North Andover's drinking water,
surface waters, groundwater and surnoundir_g environment. Sanitary sever is
believed to be the most effective form of wastewater treatment. I" copy of the
entire regjalaticyn can be obtained at o»r office.
