The purpose of this visit was to perform a soil inspection. The. existing building area was ex- cavated to natural firm material prior to the writer' s arrival . The area was backfilled in one foot thick lifts and each lift was com- pacted with five passes of a vibratory roller. The material consists of fine sand and silt, clay with little gravel, from on site . Eight field density tests were performed according to ASTM D2922 using a Troxler density gauge .
