To: Mr. A] Manzi II - Conservation Commission Chairman
From: Joseph Pelich 6,
c 4,
Dear Mr. Manzi,
Thank you for meeting with me last Thursday the 1". Please let this letter serve as an update for the
property at 492 Salem Street.
As you are aware a mistake was made and the buffer zone to the wet land line was disturbed. The following
steps were taken to ensure that no further disturbance can happen and the buffer will be re-established
properly. A single line of haybales has been put in place along the edge of the wet land line within the
buffer. The entire disturbed buffer zone has been seeded with winter rye seed. The entire disturbed buffer
zone has been covered with a layer of straw to make sure there is no movement in the top soil.A new line
has been established and as such 105+- feet away new, in addition to the existing, silt fence and hay bales
have been installed. This work was started after our site visit and complete the 9".
In order to make sure the disturbed buffer is re-established with the proper cover I consulted with my wet
land consultant, Sommer Environmental. Mr. Sommer forwarded to me a company name and catalog
information so I would purchase the proper seed mix. I have enclosed that information. I will seed the
disturbed area in early Spring or if you wish I will do it both late Winter and early Spring.
After our meeting I went to D.P.W. to try to locate an as built for the culvert under the street. Unfortunately
there is no as built available for this area.
Lastly,In addition to the above I hired a contractor and installed supplementary stone in the drain area
(away from the buffer zone). I am confident that you will be satisfied with the repair that was performed,as
it exceeded what Mr. Howard, yourself, and I discussed during the site visit.
I can make myself available for any questions, comments, or additional site visits at your convenience. My
intention is to meet wit.iI 1-41Y. Ioward early next week for an additional site visit. Thank you for your help
and direction. I can be reached at(978)683-3605 or my pager number is 444-7370.
Sincerely,
President
Joseph Pelich-Preside

New England Erosion Control/Restoration Mix
(for Detention Basins and Moist Sites)
The New England Erosion Control/Restoration Mix contains a selection of native grasses and wild-
flowers designed to colonize generally moist, recently disturbed sites where quick growth of vegeta-
tion is desired to stabilize the soil surface. This seed mix uses plant genotypes from the Northeastern
j
states. It is an excellent seed mix for ecologically appropriate restorations on moist sites which
require quick stabilization as well as long-term establishment of native vegetation. This mix is par-
ticularly appropriate for detention basis which do not normally hold standing water The plants in this
mix can tolerate infrequent inundation, but not constant flooding. In New England, the best results
are obtained with a Spring seeding.Summer and Fall seeding can be successful with a light mulching
of weed free straw to conserve moisture. Late Fall and Winter dormant seeding require a slight
increase in the seeding rate.Fertilization is not required unless the soils are particularly infertile. -
