ADDENDUM
The house I live in sits on one part of a lot at the corner
of Foster and Winter Streets that is shaped like a dumbbell. The
peculiar shape is the result of someone about 50 years ago
carving out a separate lot from the middle of a larger parcel,
leaving a thin strip of land behind it that connects the two
"bells" .
This oddball shape has meant that a big part of my property
is available to me only if I walk down Foster Street or behind my
neighbor's house. In effect, I can't use it. But a lot of other
people do, to dump their trash, shingles, paint cans, etc.
Most of the lots nearby, on Foster Street and Winter Stret,
are one-acre in size. I would like to be able to build a new
house for my wife and myself on the vacant portion of the
property which is shown as Lot 4B. This lot would be more than
one acre. I 'd like to sell the other house to finance a new one.
I believe that owing to the circumstances relating to the
oddball shape of my property, literal enforcement of the
provisions of the town zoning bylaw is a substantial hardship to
me, and the granting of a variance for my property would not be
a detriment to the public good nor violate the intend of the
bylaw.
