John Callamaro—55 Pilgrim Street-William J. Sullivan chaired but did not vote. John Callamaro represented the petition. He would like to add a side addition of 16x24' for a 1'floor family room,a 2nd floor bedroom,and a full basement underneath. Also,he requested permission to add a bulkhead to the rear, since the basement has no outside access now. He would make the addition consistent with the existing classic Cape design,and set back the addition a little bit from the house. Mr. Said that this is a R-4 area;what about the set of stairs;are they covered? Mr.Callamaro said that there is no canopy existing. Mr. Sullivan asked if anyone was opposed or in favor of this? Mr. Sullivan asked about the addition's height and Mr. Callamaro said that it would be consistent with the existing house. My mother's health and my prior personal and professional commitments do not allow me to attend the hearing in person on this occasion. I reviewed the building plans in detail for 55 Pilgrim Street on November 10,2003. My mother and I agree that the bulkhead is a useful addition to the residence;however, while we understand that some additional space to the home would be helpful,the proposed size of the family room is excessive at 16' x 24'. We believe that downsizing the width and length of the structure a couple of feet on each side would allow a generous and valuable addition to the Callamaro's home,successfully diminish any hardship and also preserve essential space among the abutters' densely clustered group of residences. Therefore,we do not agree that a variance should be granted to allow for such a large side setback. It is not clear from the plans presented what the intentions are for the shed at the end of the driveway and if the driveway will remain where it is now. These intentions should be clarified.
