RE: TREE REMOVAL- 595 Massachusetts Avenue,North Andover
Dear Mr. Park,
At your request, the North Andover Conservation Department conducted an inspection at the
above-referenced property to evaluate the removal of several potentially hazardous trees. You
identified seven (7) sugar maple trees (some of which have grown together in clumps) along the edge
of your lawn that exhibited signs of obvious rot or were significantly leaning towards your garage
and neighbor's property. These trees appeared to be located within the 25-foot No Disturbance
Zone from the edge of the adjacent wetland resource area. Based on the physical evidence these
trees exhibited and confirmed by your tree arborist, these trees are determined to be a safety hazard
and can be removed. The Conservation Department will allow you to remove the seven (7) trees,
leaving the stumps in the ground for stabilization purposes. You also identified another tree you
would like to take down that is located to the far right of your house. Even though this tree is
located within 100-feet of the adjacent wetland,it is greater than 25-feet; therefore,it can also be
removed. Please contact the undersigned when you have scheduled the tree company to
perform this work.
During our meeting you also expressed that you wanted to remove or prune two (2) more sugar
maple trees located along the split rail fence because the trees are located in close proximity to your
house and the branches are overhanging onto your roof.As mentioned to you previously, these trees
are located in the 25-foot No Disturbance Zone and appear to be healthy. Removal of these trees is
not something this department would typically endorse due to its current health status. However,
pruning the tree may be something we can discuss further. Based on a plan relative to building 16 of
the Heritage Green Condominium complex (enclosed),it is difficult to distinguish if these trees are
actually located on your property or on property owned by Heritage Green. As such, I do not feel
comfortable approving the removal or pruning of this tree until this has been properly determined.
