The Y ve nt of a sources in the e _ a rapid pace.As a result of greater utilization, traditional firefighter tactics for suppression, ventilation, and overhaul have been complicated, leaving firefighters vulnerable to severe hazards. 299 Analysis of Changes NEC-2014 V n - This new section will address the de-energizing of rooftop wiring, leaving Continued 'only the module wiring and internal conductors of the module still energized. PV source circuit conductors include all wiring between modules or modu- lar electronic devices up to the combining point. In order to meet these new Proposal 4-253,4-167 requirements, an electronic means will be.necessary to shut down the module ; at the source circuit level. This shutdown must coincide with a utility outage, or Comment 4-113,4-107, manual inverter shutdown.A PV module-level do-dc converter, single-module 4-108,4-110 micro-inverter, and ac module can all meet this requirement at the module end of the circuit. Simple remotely controlled electronic switches can also meet this requirement.A voltage limit of 30-volts and a power limit of 240 voltamperes (watts) were established as a safe power limited environment. This is consistent with international standards including IEC 61730, Photovoltaic (PV) Module Safety Qualification, which establish safety procedures for PV modules. This also allows for 24-volt control circuits throughout the array that are currently used in products that employ contactors for shutting down combiner boxes. CMP-4 has taken a huge step to reduce hazards for first and second responders by accepting these new rapid shutdown provisions into 690.12 of the 2014 NEC. These new rapid shutdown provisions were integrated into the 2014 NEC as a result of combined efforts from three different groups, all with concerns for safety of emergency responders at buildings or structures with PV systems involved. These groups included the CMP-4 Firefighter Safety Task Group, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) Codes and Standards Working Group, and the PV Industry Forum. i i 300 Analysis of Changes NEC-2014 690.11 ARTICLE 690—SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC(PV)SYSTEMS The inverter output rating or the rating of an alternate en- 690.12 Rapid Shutdown of PV Systems on Buildings. ergy source shall be equal to or greater than the load posed PV system circuits installed on or in buildings shall include by the largest single utilization equipment connected to the a rapid shutdown function that controls specific conductors system. Shelia Alvarez Realty Markekpiace 27 Cabot Street Beverly , MA 01915 RE= Lot 25A :- 65 Blue Ridge Road - North Andover , MA Dear Ms . Alvarez; As requested I have reviewed the results of the soil borings taken by CON-TEC . , Inc . on September 19 , 1995 at the above referenced site . At the approximate elevations of the footings the blow counts range from 10 blows per foot to over 20 blows per foot . This is considered loose material . The logs also indicate that this material is either class 7 or 8 ( Massachusetts State Building Code Table 1201 ) . In either case an allowable net bearing pressure of 2 tons/sq .ft . is conservative . It is my opinion that using a 24 inch footing,, which will result; in a bearing pressure of 1/2 ton/ft .sq . , will present no problems . I also recommend that the continuous center bearing footing be 36 inche's wide and have 4 - #b rebars in the bottom_ Should you have any questions. please call me .
