Casale relating to his investigation of the odors reported by you on July 18, 1994. As you can see, Lt. Casale concluded that the odors you reported were in all likelihood coming from lawn care chemicals. I reviewed the dispatch log for that evening and it appears that other residents reported the same noxious odors. It is important to the Town of North Andover that we are made aware of such incidents and you followed the correct procedures by notifying Central Dispatch, as well as the Massachusetts Environment Quality Engineering Department. Should you detect a reoccurrence of these odors, during the day time, please notify the Board of Health at 682-6483. The Board of Health Administrator will conduct a follow up investigation. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call. Sincer ly, J es P. At 19:18 firs that date Engine One was dispatched to 47 Old Farm Rd, to investigate a strong acrid odor ( similar to burning Sulfur ). Upon our arrival we met with the residents of 47 Old Farm Rd. They told us of the odor they had smelled. We then went through their home, to see if we could detect the odor, and found none. We proceeded outside the residence, and intermittently we would pick up a slight odor of what we believed to be Lawn Care Chemicals. We then checked the entire area of Old Farm Rd and French Farm Rd. We could still only find slight traces of the odor, and the odor we detected was not the strong acrid odor reported to us. We checked the wind. There was a steady breeze blowing from East to West. Therefore we felt the odor was not coming from any of the nearby facilities, which are west of this area, and strengthening our belief that the odor was from Lawn Care Chemicals. At this time we returned to quarters. I was never informed of the call from the resident at #7 French Farm Rd. I hope this will answer any questions you may have on this incident. At first, I thought that one of my children left something of a plastic nature on a hot heating element of the stove. It reminded me of an incident several years ago when my house was filled with a pungent chemical odor due to a plastic utensil falling on the heating element of my dishwasher during the dry cycle. That's as close as I can come to describing the acrid smell. We have numerous chemical and trash burning facilities in the area. I am very concerned that this substance has been released into our environment. I hope you will follow up this complaint with the local North Andover authorities who were sent to investigate the problem and advise me of other action I might take if this type of occurrence happens at night or on the weekend when you cannot be reached.
