Scott, Division Director 27 Charles Street Sandra Starr North Andover, Massachusetts 01845 Health Director November 30, 2000 Charlotte Murphy 72 Campion Road North Andover, MA 011045 Dear Ms. Murphy, Telephone (978) 688-9540 Fax(978)688-9542 This correspondence is in response to your report to the Health Department of the discovery of evidence of rats on your property, 72 Campion Road. In previous phone conversations held with you and your neighbor, Mark Veber of 95 Campion Road, you expressed your concerns that a possible source of your rodent problems could be the abandoned Campion Hall Estate, Cochichewick Road, North Andover. As a follow-up to your concerns I contacted the property manager of the estate, Robert Bartlett. He was more than accommodating when asked to allow the Health Department access to the property for the purpose of an inspection. An inspection of the interior and the exterior grounds of the estate was conducted on November 29, 2000 by the property manager and myself. The following conditions were found. 1) The property was found appropriately secured to deter trespassing. 2) The property manager reported that weekly inspections are conducted to ensure security and provide maintenance when needed. 3) The interior inspection found no evidence of rats. Evidence in this case is defined as, but is not 'limited to, rodent feces, nests, wall run marks, or chew marks. 4) No food source is present inside the main building or in the carriage house. 5) A walk around the building was conducted and the exterior grounds were observed. There was no indication of rat runs. There was one wide path, approximately 6", which appeared to be a ground hog run to the field. 6) There is an existing underground drainage system that had in the past been connected to the roof drains. Openings that were'located showed no indication of rat infestation. 7) A large uncut field is located outside of the fenced in area. It is likely to be the habitat of considerable wild life, but rat harborage cannot be determined. In conclusion, it is tie opinion of this inspector that there iS ri'l'l present or recent past rat infestation of the Campion Hall estate. This opinion is based on the site inspection done on this date only. No additional pest control management recommendatiors are being Blade to the owner of this property at this time.
