Observations were as follows: On the property of the nursing home facility, the dumpster closest to your property contains only cardboard products. All kitchen and other garbage are kept in the dumpster closest to the building and is set on concrete. That dumpster was closed and was found to be in good clean condition. After the exterior inspection, a conversation was held with the facility's new Administrator, Judy Blinn and the Maintenance Manager, Chris Ball. Mr. Ball recalled your previous rodent concerns and in response to your questions Waltham Chemical, their pest control company, was requested to place bait boxes and traps for observation. Waltham Chemical found that there was no rat infestation on the Prescott property at that time. No further action was recommended. The property surrounding the Prescott Village Condos was found in similar condition. It happened to be trash day so it was a good day to observe. There were no unsanitary conditions found and no obvious rat problems seen. There is no action needed involving their community at this time. Unfortunately I was unable to identify any problems that may lead to your concerns, at either location. Lastly, I went to your home in hopes to discuss the issue, but you were not there. I took the liberty of walking around the side to observe your property. I noticed you have a beautiful vegetable garden. I also noticed that there was a dish of what resembled cat food, sitting out on the ground. Cat food is a definite draw for rats, so I would recommend that you stop leaving the animal food out. Any effort you can make to deter them from coming can only help your situation. As I mentioned on the phone, I recommend that you contract with a licensed pest control operator to look into your concerns. Professional pest control operators are more versed in rodent problems than this office and will likely spot the problems easier than we do. At this time the health office is not able to order anyone to take further action in regards to your complaint, as no violations were observed. Feel free to contact me if at any time in the future a professional identifies a problem that is in my jurisdiction. Our office will be happy to assist you. Thanks complainant - Tricia Curtain, 864 Chickering Rd, neighbor to Prescott Nursing Home 978 851-2500 ext 246 (work) 978 686-2012 States that she has rats around her foundation and they get into the garage. Feels they come from the nursing home dumpster area. She has spoken to them many times since March when she first noticed the problem, but it continues. Advised her that I would contact Prescott next week. If the rats have burrowed around her house she may need to hire a pest control person as well. I will contact her after I inspect the area early next week.
