This addendum shall supplement, amend and become part of the bid documents. Bid Documents are the Contract Documents, Drawings and Specifications, for the North Andover Central Fire Station dated August 28, 2014. All bids and the construction contract shall be based on these modifications. 1.2 PROCEDURES A. The attention of bidders submitting proposals for the above subject project is called to the following addendum to the specifications and drawings. The items set forth herein, whether of omission, addition, substitution, or clarifications are all to be included in and form a part of the proposal submitted. B. THE NUMBER OF THIS ADDENDUM (2) MUST BE ENTERED IN THE APPROPRIATE SPACE "B" PROVIDED AFTER THE WORD "NUMBERS" OF THE CONTRACT FORM ENTITLED "FORM FOR GENERAL BID," AND IN SPACE "B" OF THE "FORM FOR SUB - BID." 1.3 RELATED WORK A. All work shall comply with requirements specified for similar work unless otherwise described. 1.4 THIS ADDENDUM CONTAINS A. Revisions to the: 1. Answers to Contractor's Questions 2. SKE-4 to SKE-10 PART 2 — ANSWERS TO CONTRACTORS' QUESTIONS 2.1 DESCRIPTION A. Bidder Question: Please provide construction duration for this project. Response: Reference Addendum No. 1 Section 01 10 00, SUMMARY, item. 1. 13. B. Bidder Question: In the Central Fire Station - N Andover spec for PVC roofing it states that the contractor must supply a 5 year workmanship warranty. Bonding companies will not issue bonds for more than 2 years. Response: Refer to revision to Section 07 54 23, b. (below 3. 1, Item 6 below) C. Bidder Question: Please clarify that FSB trades are responsible for their own staging, hoisting and temporary weather protection for their work. Response: FSB trades are responsible for staging, hoisting and protection of their materials per their section or per their combined FSB section. D. Bidder Question: Addenda 31, section 01 10 00, 1. 12, 7. Can you clarify that the responsibility for tickets is the responsibility of each respective trade, and not the General Contractor. Response: Refer to revision to Section 01 10 00, 1. 12, 7. (Part 3. 1, Item #1 below) E. Bidder Question: Your exterior wall sections indicate mineral wool insulation, which is directly behind the finish exterior and not protected by any other material. Is this correct? It will not be very easy, or practical, to keep it dry before all exterior finishes are in place. Response: Yes it is correct. Mineral wool is not adversely affected by water. F. Bidder Question: Is the FSB electrician responsible to provide the temporary power and lighting for the project? If not, it should be as the FSB electrical will hold the license and permit for the project. Response: Yes, refer to Sections 26 00 00, 1.3, 19 and 0150 00, 2.02, C in the project specifications. G. Bidder Question: Section 09 65 19, 2.2 specifies a water vapor control system. Is this the same as what is specified in 09 96 99? Response: Yes. Refer to revision to Section 09 65 19. (Part 3. 1, Item #12 below) H. Bidder Question: Will there be a pre-bid conference for the above referenced project? Response: No. I. Bidder Question: You specify 4 different Air & Vapor Membranes in Section 07 26 00, 2.2, Item A in that section is a 6 mil poly, which you say can only be used with prior authorization from the Architect. Will you accept that? Response: 6 mil poly can used where a vapor barrier only is called for except below the slab on grade. J. Bidders Question: Why isn't the A&V barrier system part of the WDC field bid? Response: The A&V barrier system is divided amount different trades and the GC to ensure a complete system from face of exterior sheathing to exterior face of wall & roofing. K. Bidder Question: Could you please clarify, which section owns the water vapor emission control system? Resilient flooring filed sub -bid section 09 65 19, 1, 1.2, A, 2. Provide Water Emission Control System and also section 09 96 99 water vapor emission control systems (not part of the filed sub -bid). Response: Section 09 96 99 owns water vapor emission control system. Refer to revision to Section 09 65 19. (Part 3. 1, Item 12 below) L. Bidder Question: Section 09 65 18-1 (Rubber Flooring and Stair Covering) 1.2, B, 2 Rubber Tactile Flooring. Finish schedule or plan doesn't shows the location of Tactile flooring. Could you please provide the location of tactile? Response: Tactile flooring is not part of the project scope. Refer to 3. 1, Item #11 below deleting this reference from Section 09 65 18. M. Bidder Question: Spec section 0143 39 — "Mockup Construction", para 1.1 F refers to the drawings for the layout of the mockup panel. There are no details provided on the contract drawing. Please provide. Also, given the time frame on this project is an in place mockup panel acceptable. Response: Refer to attached SKA-11 For mock-up panel size, layout and details. N. Bidder Question: The Ready Mixed Concrete Material specified on sheet S1.0 (concrete note #2) differs slightly from the Contract Specifications (03 30 00-2.05). Which design mix applies to this project? Response: Refer to revisions to note #2 in 4. 1, A, (Part 4. 1, Item #15 below) 0. Please confirm that epoxy rebar and the corrosion inhibiting concrete admixture is only required at the Exterior Apparatus Bay Concrete Apron (Alternate #1) location. Response: Yes P. Bidder Question: What is the required compression strength (25psi, 40psi, 60psi??) of the 2" rigid insulation at the foundation walls and SOG? Spec section 07 21 00 doesn't provide this information. Response: Refer to revision to specification section 07 2100. (Part 3. 1, Item #3 below) Q. Bidder Question: Please confirm that the FSB contractor owns sealants at exterior concrete as specified in section 07 92 00 — Sealants. Response: Yes. Refer to Section 07 92 00 2.2, F, J & L and 3.6 B, 1. R. Bidder Question: Spec section 08 36 13 — 2.1.17.8 & 9 refer to the Newton Fire Department. Obviously this is a misprint. Are any of these items (remote control station and photo electric sensor) required on this project? Response: Refer to Addendum No.1 which deleted 2. 1, F, 8 in its entirety and changed "Newton" to "North Andover" in 2. 1, F, 9. All other operational requirements listed in "F" are applicable including Item 9. S. Bidder Question: Filed Bid Section 08 44 13 — Alum Storefronts, Doors, & Interior Windows refers to Section 08 00 08 in para 1.3. Please provide this section. (Part 3. 1, Item #9 below) T. Bidder Question: Spec section 33 41 13.01 doesn't provide the class of the pipe. Please provide. Response: Refer to revisions to Section 33 41 13.01. (Part 3. 1, Item #13 below) U. Bidder Question: Door elevation Type "I" located at the rear of the building, please clarify the following 1. Overhead Coiling Door Spec, 2.1 — B; 1. 2. The elevation on the door opening schedule appears to be Steel. Is the rear doors supposed to be Aluminum or Steel insulated doors? Response: All overhead doors — full and partial glazed doors — are Aluminum. V. Bidder Question: Are there any specific model numbers from any of the specified overhead door manufactures that the doors are based on? That way everyone is bidding on the same/ comparable door. Response: Specification section 08 36 13 was written around "Overhead Door 511 series", "Raynor Aluma View series" and "Clopay Fullview Aluminum Doors". W. Bidder Question: Does the roofing sub -contractor own the metal flashing at details 2 and 5 on A5.1; 5 on A5.2; 7 on A5.3; 1, 4, and 7 on A5.4 ; and 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8 on A5.5? Response: Section 04 20 00 owns flashing at and behind masonry. Section 07 62 00 owns flashing at and behind the Fiber Cement Siding. Sheet A5.1 details 2 and 5 flashing owned by Section 04 20 00 Sheet A5.2 detail 5 flashing at pre -cast cap owned by Section 04 20 00 Sheet A5.3 detail 7 flashing owned by Section 07 62 00 Sheet A5.4 detail 1 flashing owned by Section 04 20 00 Sheet A5.4 details 4 and 7 flashing owned by Section 07 62 00 Sheet A5.5 details 1 and 2 flashing owned by Section 07 62 00 Sheet A5.5 details 3, 4, 7 and 8 flashing owned by Section 07 62 00 X. Bidder Question: Does the G.C. own the prefinished parapet cap on details 1, 3, 4, and 6 on A5.1? Response: The prefinished parapet caps are part of the parapet cap assembly per Section 07 42 13 Metal Parapet Panels Y. Bidder Question: Does the G.C. own the insulation on the parapet side and on top of the walls on details 1, 3, and 6 on A5.1 and detail 5 on A5.2? Response: Insulation behind membrane roofing is owned by the Roofing Subcontractor. Insulation behind parapet cap assembly is owned by the GC. Z. Bidder Question: Are the solar panels going on top of the roof? Response: There are no solar panels in the project scope. AA. Bidder Question: Is this an FM insured building? Bidder Question: Is there a specification for substrate board and cover board down there? And does the roofing sub own furnishing and installing these items? Response: Refer to Section 07 54 23, 2.4, D & E. These are owned under Section 07 5423. CC. Bidder Question: Spec says an average R=30 for insulation, but the plans say 38.4. is that an average or min.? Response: R-30 is the average roof insulation. DD. Bidder Question: Is the tapered insulation W of 1/8" slope? Response: Tapered insulation at crickets to pitch 1/4 inch per foot per Section 07 54 23. 2.2, B. EE. Bidder Question: Does the G.C. own supplying the water for the water test. Response: Yes per Section 0150 00 Temporary Facilities. FF. Bidder Question: What do you mean by air and vapor barrier lap with air and vapor barrier by the G.C. at the fascia of the parapet by roofer? Response: All AVB joints shall lapin a positive manner. Roofer laps AVB over parapet AVB. Parapet AVB supplied and installed by GC. Lap shall be a minimum of 2" GG. Bidder Question: Does the roofer own the'/" sheathing board or the vapor barrier on the fascia of the parapet? Response: Roofer owns board and AVB behind membrane roofing. GC owns sheathing board and AVB behind metal parapet. Roofer owns lapping AVB over GC AVB at vertical fascia of parapet as noted and shown on details on sheets A5.1 & A5.2. HH. Bidder Question: Please refer to section 2 on drawing A5.1 and explain if the foundation wall trowel on waterproofing will be dampproofing per specification Section 071600 and not waterproofing? (If waterproofing is the requirement please provide a specification for the waterproofing.) Response: Refer to revisions to Sheet A5.1, A5.3, and A5.5 noting change from Waterproofing to Dampproofing in conformance with Section 07 16 00. II. Bidder Question: Please refer to detail 6 on drawing A5.3 and detail 10 on drawing A5.5 and explain what specification section will be responsible for the base and second layer of waterproofing that is detailed at the top of the foundation walls that ties into the under slab vapor barrier? (Note that Section 0716 00 dampproofing is the only specification for the foundation wall surfaces base coat with no waterproofing specification for the detailed waterproofing second layer.) Response: Section 07 16 00. JJ. Bidder Question: Please refer to section 5 & 6 on drawing A6.4 and explain what the material is that is symbolized at the exterior wall surfaces and under the slab of the elevator pit? (Will the dampproofing requirement of specification section 07 16 00 be required at the exterior surfaces of the elevator pit walls?) Response: Walls are covered in Dampproofing and underside of elevator pit is VB. Bidder Question: Will specification section 07 16 13 Polymer Modified Cement Waterproofing be required at the interior floor and wall surfaces of the elevator and sump pit within as specified in section 07 16 13 but not detailed in sections 5 & 6 on drawing A6.4 or at the typical elevator pit detail on drawing S2.2? Response: Yes. Refer to added notes to sections 5 & 6 on Sheet A6.4 (4. 1, Item 13 below) calling out Waterproofing on elevator and sump pit walls and floors. LL. Bidder Question: Please refer to drawings S1.1, S2.1 and S2.2 and explain if joint sealant will be required, the responsibility of FSB Section 07 00 01 waterproofing, dampproofing & Sealant, at the following interior floor joint locations at the slab on grade whether exposed or not? Please answer yes or no to each question below. a. Floor to wall joints at elevator pits and elsewhere? b. Contraction or construction joints? c. Isolation joints at column locations? Response: a. Bidder Question: Please confirm that the expansion joint sealant indicated at the exterior concrete pavement locations per detail 4 on drawings SP1.1 or A5.2 at wall junctures will also occur at the intermediate expansion joints and where the concrete pavement abuts curbs? Response: YES NN. Bidder Question: Please confirm that specification FSB Section 07 00 01 waterproofing, dampproofing & Sealant will be responsible for the installation of joint sealant at exterior concrete pavement joints and not the paving section specification section 04 05 00? Response: Sealant will be the responsibility of Section 07 92 00. OO.Bidder Question: Please refer to FSB Section 07 00 01 sub section 07 92 00 Sealants part 3 Paragraph 3.6-A and explain exactly what exterior or interior joints at seams or intersections will require joint sealant that is not detailed, as filed sub bid statue requires for competitive file sub bids? Please answer yes or no if joint sealant will be required at any of the following locations and that the responsibility for installing the joint sealant will be by FSB Section 070001 Waterproofing, Dampproofing and Caulking? a. Perimeter of the toilet fixtures at water closets, showers & urinals? YES b. Perimeter of janitor closet mop receptors? YES c. Toilet room vanity counter back splash to wall juncture? YES d. Back splash to wall junctures at kitchen counters? YES e. Casework to dissimilar materials? YES f. Please define what ceilings types will require perimeter sealant if any? Partitions with sound attenuation batt shall be sealed at underside of deck above and at floor. All partitions butting exterior walls shall be sealed at joint with exterior wall. All inside face of exterior walls shall be sealed to underside of deck and at floor. g. Stairway stringer or landing to wall junctures at top joint? YES h. Stairway stringer or landing to wall junctures at bottom joint? YES i. Exterior precast sills abut masonry or at precast to precast end joints if required at detail 3 on drawing A5.5? YES j. Bidder Question: Please confirm that all door frames within drywall partitions will require perimeter sealant as indicated on drawing A7.2 and that the responsibility for installing the joint sealant will be by FSB Section 070001 Waterproofing, Damp proofing and Caulking? Response: All sealant work by Section 07 92 00. QQ. Bidder Question: Please confirm that the air vapor barrier within exterior walls will be installed by the mason or general contractor and will not be a part of the Section 07 00 01 Waterproofing, Dampproofing & Sealant filed sub bid as is often the requirement. Response: Yes — by Mason, GC or Roofer. RR. Bidder Question: Will the joint sealant or caulking between the fiber cement siding or trim be installed by the Section 07 46 46 Fiber Cement siding & Trim contractor or will the responsibility for installing this joint sealant be by FSB Section 070001 Waterproofing, Dampproofing and Caulking? (Refer to details 1 & 7 on drawing A5.2, detail 5 on drawing A5.3 and details 5 & 6 On drawing A5.5) Response: Sealant between Fiber Cement Siding and Fiber Cement trim shall be provided by Section 07 92 00 and installed by 07 46 46, reference 3.2, B, 1: SS. Bidder Question: Will the sealant at the base of the fiber cement siding, where the metal flashing abuts the precast sill in detail 5 on drawing A5.1, be the responsibility of the metal flashing installer or will the responsibility for installing this joint sealant be by FSB Section 070001 Waterproofing, Dampproofing and Caulking? Response: By Section 07 92 00. TT. Bidder Question: Will the sealant where the top of the fiber cement siding abuts the metal siding be the responsibility FSB Section 070001 Waterproofing, Dampproofing and Caulking? Refer to detail 4 on drawing A5.1. Response: By Section 07 92 00. UU. Bidder Question: Will the installation of joint sealant between metal panels be the responsibility of the metal panel contractor? Response: Yes. W. Bidder Question; Refer to detail 6 on drawing A5.4 and confirm that the backer rod expansion joints within the sheathing board will be installed by either the air vapor barrier contractor or the sheathing board contractor? Response: The expansion joints is the responsibility of the sheathing board installer and the backer rod and sealant is the responsibility of Section 07 92 00. WW. Bidder Question: Please confirm that File Sub Bid Section 07 00 01 will be responsible for all staging to perform there work? Response: FSB trades are responsible for staging, hoisting and protection of their materials per their section or per their combined FSB section. XX. Bidder Question: Will the cost for a performance and payment bond be included in the file sub -bid price for each file sub -bidder? Response: Refer to Bidding requirements in Section 00 21 13 Instructions to Bid, Article 9. YY. Bidder Question: Mechanical specification HVAC call for 1 %" thick liner, the plans show 1" thick liner, which is correct? Response: Per Specification the more stringent shall be used. Drawing will be updated in 09/18/2014 ADDENDUM No.2 Page -7 w NORTH ANDOVER CENTRAL FIRE STATION North Andover, Massachusetts 01845 Project No. 1304.00 Addendum No. 2. ZZ. Bidder Question: VAV call for 10' liner after the VAV Unit. The Exhaust fan doesn't give a length of the liner on each side of fan? Do you want toilet/shower exhaust fan lined? Response: Liner is not required for exhaust fan. Details will be updated in Addendum No. 2. AAA. Bidder Question: Do you want alum. Duct for shower exhaust system? Response: Ductwork type for shower exhaust will be updated in Addendum No. 2. BBB. Bidder Question: Cannot find sub -sub contractors list? Response: Refer to Addendum No. 1. CCC. Bidder Question: Cannot find radiant floor specifications and info on plans? Response: Refer to Addendum No. 1. DDD. Bidder Question: Is there an alt #2 radiant floor? Response: Refer to Addendum No. 1. EEE. Bidder Question: Cannot find amount of days for completion of project. Response: Refer to Addendum No. 2. FFF. Bidder Question: RTU liner shows two sound attenuators, there are no sound attenuators shown, please clarify. Response: RTU detail calls for liner and makes no reference to sound attenuators. The project does not have any sound attenuators. GGG. Bidder Question: What fixtures are to be dimmable with a 0-10V control? No ALCS output or No dimmers shown on drawing. FR22A references step dimming, this is not 0- 10Vdimming. Please review and advise. Response: Provide fixture type FR22A with one two lamp ballast and one single lamp ballast. There is no 0-10V or step dimming required for the project. HHH. Bidder Question: Is MDP rated at 600A or 800A, are there any breaker provisions for MDP or just the three breakers as shown on schedule? Response: Main Distribution Panel "MDP" shall be rated 800A with main breaker and breakers indicated. Refer to Electrical Sketch SKE-8, Revisions to Drawing E3.1— PANEL SCHEDULES AND DETAILS. III. Bidder Question: Are there any EBU on project, none shown on drawings? Response: Provide EBU in Electrical Room 121 (illuminating fire alarm control panel), emergency electrical closet adjacent to 121 (illuminating ATS), and Shared Office 103 (illuminating fire alarm remote annunciator). JJJ. Bidder Question: Are there any RS exits on project, none shown on drawing? Response: Provide RS exit sign in App. Room 129 on wall above opening to Corridor 118. KKK. Bidder Question: Is panel LP, 42 pole per panel schedule or 24 pole per drawing E0.2? Bidder Question: Can you please issue any existing Hydrant Flow Test Data for or around Chickering Road and Prescott Street? Response: The Town of North Andover DPW provided the design team with the following flow data from a test performed in 2002 at the corner of Prescott and Summit. Static pressure: 108 psi Residual Pressure: 100 psi Flow: 1561 gpm PART 3 — PROJECT MANUAL 3.1 DESCRIPTION A. The following Specification Sections are revised as follows: 1. Section 01 10 00 SUMMARY a. 1.12, A, 7: Delete the following "The Contractor shall be responsible for all fines and tickets." 2. Section 03 30 00 Cast -in -Place Concrete a. 2.04 Insert and delete the following: 1. Delete E. in its entirety and replace with the following: E. Curing Compounds: Verify that products listed below meet regulations of jurisdiction for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emissions. Notify Architect if listed products do not comply and submit information about equivalent products that do comply. 1. Curing and Sealing Compound. Use a clear acrylic type conforming to ASTM C309, Type 1, Class B. Use one of the following or equivalent where concrete surfaces will remain exposed. (Rooms 105, 119, 120, 121, 122, 127, 130 & 22 1) a. "Masterkure" Master Builders. b. "Super Rez Seal'; Euclid Chemical Co. c. 'Dress & Seal #30'; L & M d. "Intex'; W.R. Meadows 2. Curing and Hardening Compound: Use colorless solution containing 35% of a 42 degree Baume sodium silicate solution. Use where shown on drawings. Use one of the following or equivalent: (Rooms 118, 123, 125, 129, 131, 132 & 133) a. "Chem -Hard'; L & M b. "Eucosil"' Euclid Chemical Co. c. "Cure -hard'; W.R. Meadow 3. Dissipating Resin Curing Compound: Use a dissipating resin type compound, conforming to ASTM C309, Type 1. The film must chemically break down in a two -to -four week period. Use one of the following or equivalent where concrete surfaces will receive other materials. (For all rooms except for those listed in Items 1 & 2 above.) a. Wurez DR'; Euclid Chemical Co. b. Insert the following at the end: "Provide Metzger/Mcguire MM -80 (full depth) joint filler or approved equal, installed per manufacturer's instructions in Apparatus Room, 129, only." b. 3.10 Insert and delete the following: 1. Delete A-E. in their entirety and replace with the following: A. Monolithic Slab Finishes: Floor Flatness (FF) and Levelness (FL) tolerances shall conform to the criteria listed below except Floor Levelness (FL) does not apply to slabs on unshored steel deck. Measure (FL) on shored floor slabs prior to removing shores. B. Scratch Finish: 1. Scratch finish slab surfaces that are to receive concrete floor topping or mortar setting beds for tile, stone and other bonded applied cementitious finish flooring material. 2. After placing slabs, plane surface to a tolerance not exceeding %" in 10' when tested with a 10' straightedge. Slope surfaces uniformly to drains where required. After leveling, roughen surface before final set with stiff brushes, brooms or rakes. C. Float Finish: 1. Apply float finish to monolithic slab surfaces to receive trowel finish and other finishes as hereinafter specified, and slab surfaces which are to be covered with membrane or elastic waterproofing, membrane or elastic roofing, and as otherwise indicated. 2. After screeding, consolidating, and leveling concrete slabs, do not work surface until ready for floating. Begin floating when surface water has disappeared or when concrete has stiffened sufficiently to permit operation of power -driven floats, or both. Consolidate surface with power -driven floats, or by hand -floating if area is small or inaccessible to power units. Check and level surface plane to a tolerance not exceeding 1/8" in 10' when tested with a 10' straightedge. Cut down high spots and fill low spots. Uniformly slope surfaces to drains. Immediately after leveling, refloat surface to a uniform, smooth, granular texture. D. Trowel Finish: 1. Apply trowel finish to monolithic slab surfaces to be exposed -to -view, and slab surfaces to be covered with wood flooring, resilient flooring, carpet, thin -set tile and stone, paint or other thin film finish coating system. 2. After floating, begin first trowel finish operation using a power -driven trowel. Begin final troweling when surface produces a ringing sound as trowel is moved over surface. Consolidate concrete surface by final hand -troweling operation, free of trowel marks, uniform in texture and appearance, and with a surface plane tolerance not exceeding 1/8" in 10' when tested with a 10' straightedge. Grind smooth surface defects which would telegraph through applied floor covering system. E. Non -slip Broom Finish: 1.
