HOCKEY: Raskwill be the key Continued from Page 13 Ference (foot) and Wade Redden (hand) - the big- ger issue might be age. This group, led by the workhorse, Zdeno Chara, is old and has lost a step since the Cup run. Three of the goals that got by Rask in Monday's Game 7 were on rebounds where the Leafs outnum- bered the Bruins in front of their own goal. That won't cut it with the Rangers ... and Lundgvist Winger Rick Nash (21 goals, 21 assists in 44 games), Derek Step 18 and 26 in 48 games) and Brad Richards (11 and 23 in 46 games) are all-star caliber point -producers. If that collection of talent combines to score three or four goals a game, the odds are the Bruins will be toast. That's where Rask comes in. While there were no outward signs he "stole" a game in the series against the Leafs, it could be argued his play in the third period in Games 3 and 4 in Toronto saved the Bruins from easily fall- ing behind 3-1 rather than being up 3-1. It appears these Bruins - Rangers games will be physical and very defen- sive, which could mean a lot of 2-1 and 3-2 games. That's probably a good thing, considering the Bru- ins have had trouble con- verting many, many great scoring changes. I hate to say this, but in the end, the Bruins will win this series if Rask is the best player on the ice, just like his former team- mate was two years ago. Patriots Patriots cut Love after. . diagnosis FOXBORO (AP) - The New England Patriots released defensive tackle Kyle Love yesterday after he was diag- nosed with diabetes. Love had lost about 20 pounds before receiving the diagnosis about two weeks ago then gained about half of it back, Richard Kopelman, his agent, said. He said Love has Type 2 diabetes, which is less serious than Type 1, and was work- ing out at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday before being released. The Patriots did not mention the diagnosis in a statement announcing the move. ".They expressed some concern that they didn't know what the recovery time would be and, in their view, didn't want to leave some- thing to chance," Kopelman said. "That's OK. There are 31 other teams in the NFL." Love started the first 11 games last season next to Vince Wilfork. Brandon Dea- derick started the last five but was released on Monday and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In the offseason, the Patri- ots signed two free -agent defensive tackles, Tommy Kelly and Armond Armstead. Love joined the Patriots as a rookie free agent out, of Mississippi State in 2010 and started 25 of the 41 regular - season games in which he played.
