Good afternoon, Mr. Maylor:
My name is Jeff Moon and I would like to be considered for the open vacancy on the School
Committee.
I have been a North Andover resident since September 2010, living at 141 Berry Street with my
wife, Tiffany, and my three children, all of whom attend the North Andover Public School
system. My wife currently serves as Treasurer for the North Andover Parent Advisory Council.
My educational background includes a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the
University of Rochester (NY) and I am employed as a senior mechanical engineer at the
Raytheon Company in Tewksbury, MA.
In recent months, I have served as the president of the Berry Street Neighborhood Association
(http://berrystreetna.org/), a grassroots organization committed to the preservation of the
character of our neighborhood and the quality of life for our neighbors as well as the promotion
of community, safety, and goodwill. In that role, I led a group of concerned residents concerned
with the development of a 40B project at 16 Berry Street to reduce the scope of the project nearly
20 percent through negotiations with the developer. In addition, we successfully petitioned the
ZBA to amend the comprehensive permit to preserve 20 open acres as conservation land, which
would prevent future development at the site.
If you require references, have questions, or need additional information, please feel free to reply
to the message or contact me on my personal cell (978.884.9520).
Thank you.

Dear Mr. Maylor:
I am interested in being considered for the vacant School Committee position that has become
available. I am a newer resident to town and am looking to get involved locally. My family moved to
North Andover in February of 2013 and my son will be attending the Thomson Elementary School as a
kindergartener starting next week. Professionally, I work as an attorney in private practice with an
office in Beverly. I am also currently employed as the Assistant City Solicitor in Beverly. This position
requires work with the mayor, the city council, and all of the departments of the city,as well as all of the
boards and commissions. It also requires review and interpretation of the city charter and ordinances.
These functions, along with my academic background and legal knowledge, would serve the community
well on the School Committee. I have a strong commitment to education. My educational background
consists of a bachelor of arts from Boston University in Political Science and Psychology and a Juris
Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. I hope that you would consider me for the vacant
School Committee position.

Subject: School Committee
Dear Mr. Maylor,
I am writing to express my interest in filling the interim position on the School Committee.
Currently, I have 2 children enrolled at NAHS, a freshman and a senior.
In the past 13 years, I have served as a volunteer at the Bradstreet School, Thompson School, Atkinson School, Franklin
School, NAMS, NAHS, District Building Respectful Communities Committee, North Andover Music Association, and North
Andover Schools Enrichment Council. I have served on 3 different school councils lead by 4 principals. I received the
Pristash Award this spring for school volunteerism. I am deeply invested and interested in the continued excellence and
improvement of North Andover Public Schools at all levels. j
As certified teacher, I worked as a professional educator in 3 public school systems.
I have served as executive director of 2 non-profit organizations. I am trained in non-profit board development, I have
extensively recruited, screened, interviewed and called personnel for high level responsibilities. I serve on the Board of
Directors of the North Andover Music Association.
I am a skilled and trained facilitator of process in groups, mediation and an excellent collaborator.
If I can provide further information, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Helen Pickard
i
To elected board and committee members, and citizens of North Andover,
I reiterate my interest in serving on the North Andover School Committee. Since submitting my
letter of interest to the town manager, I have been selected to serve on the Superintendent Search
Sub-Committee, and attended the School Committee meeting on September 4th.
Currently, I have two children enrolled at North Andover High School, a freshman and a senior.
In the past 13 years, I have served as a volunteer at the Bradstreet School, Thompson School,
Atkinson School, Franklin School,North Andover Middle School,North Andover High School,
North Andover Music Association, and North Andover Schools Enrichment Council. I have
served on three different school councils led by four principals.
I am a certified teacher, and have worked as a professional educator in three public school
systems.
I have served as executive director of two non-profit organizations. In that capacity, I have
extensively recruited, screened, and interviewed personnel for high-level responsibilities.
I am a trained facilitator of process in groups and mediation, and have extensive experience as a
collaborator.
Currently, the School Committee has members with young children in the NAPS, and members
whose children have graduated from North Andover High School. As a School Committee
member, I would add to the committee the perspective of a parent and an educator of older
children. As a school council member, I helped develop school improvement plans. As a School
Committee member I would help develop the district improvement plan. As a member of the
Superintendent Search Sub-Committee I will help identify a short list of candidates for
consideration by the full School Committee. As an involved citizen for many years, I have
followed the budget process, attended, and spoken in public meetings.
I wish this joint body well in its selection process and offer myself as an appointee should the
boards so vote.
Sincerely,
Helen Pickard

Re: School Committee Vacancy
Dear Mr. Maylor,
I read about the opening on the North Andover School Committee and am submitting a letter of
interest as per the statement you released on the town's website.
My involvement in the North Andover Public Schools began in 1991 when I entered
kindergarten at the Bradstreet School, and continued in 2005 when I graduated from North
Andover High School. I feel that I was afforded many opportunities because of the wonderful
education I received in our school system, and now feel that I should be giving back to my
community.
I have considered running for a seat on the school committee for many years. I feel that my
background in education, my work experience, firsthand knowledge of our schools, and my
connections in the community would make me an ideal candidate. There are many important
responsibilities of the school committee, most importantly helping to plan the education of our
Town's youth. Taking on these responsibilities and challenges is not something I take lightly.
I have worked for over 5 years as a secondary mathematics teacher in the Lawrence Public
Schools and at Central Catholic High School. Recently, I have begun implementing a one to one
Wad program in my classroom. I have been chosen as a technology trainer for my department,
and often attend conferences dealing with how to effectively implement and incorporate
technology into the classroom.
I feel that I can work to build consensus among stakeholders, even if this means compromising
to achieve set goals. I will be a community participant, as our school system should be a
community endeavor that engages and helps to serve all within our town. I can process
information to help make decisions, while being able to recognize other people's opinions and
points of view. I will be an effective communicator and an engaged listener. Finally, I will be a
leader who is willing to take risks to enhance the educational experience of the youth in our
school system.
I welcome the opportunity to be a part of the North Andover School Committee. I am an
energetic and creative individual who will always be looking to improve our educational system.
I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you or others about my potential as a School
Committee Member. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may
have. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely, ('

Mr.Andrew Maylor, Town Manager
Town of North Andover
120 Main Street
North Andover, MA 01845
Dear Mr. Maylor:
I wish to express my interest in being appointed to the vacant position on the North Andover School
Committee. I believe my public sector experience and my long standing involvement in our community
have given me the foundation to be a solid addition to the board.
As you know, I served the residents of North Andover for seventeen years, first as member of the Board
of Selectmen, then as their State Representative. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in office and now wish
to rejoin our town government as a member of the School Committee. I developed numerous skills
during my time in office that will be helpful to the School Committee, none more important than
listening and collaborating. Parents, teachers and administrators will know quickly that I am accessible
and open to differing points of view. Working in a legislative body of 160 members demands it. Getting
anything done in the House of Representatives required working with people of all stripes and I intend
to bring that same attitude when working with you,the Board of Selectmen and the Finance Committee.
The School Committee is embarking on its most important mission in recent years and I wish to be part
of the board that will choose the next superintendant for the North Andover schools. I have two young
children who will be entering the school system in the next couple of years, and like all parents, I want
the best leadership in our schools for them. I have the time and energy for this position, as well as the
flexibility, as I work in North Andover and would be able to adjust my schedule as the search and job
demand.
No letter of interest can reflect the full picture of my credentials, background or desire to serve. Please
inform the Board of Selectmen and School Committee that I am available to discuss my candidacy at any
time and look forward to sharing more about myself with all of them. I thank you for your time and
service.
Sincerely,
David Torrisi
