With the 2018 revision of standards a provision was added requiring "a minimum of one at least one staffperson shall accompany and monitor campers during any bus or van transport either from morning pickup to the camp or an afternoon return trip for off-site drop-off'. Brooks School Summer Programs (BSSP) requests a variance for the following reasons: • BSSP has a signed agreement with Trombly Motor Coach Service, INC. dated 3/29/2018, prior to the release of the revised regulations. • Pricing, advertising, and sign-ups for transportation services were made available beginning 01/15/2018. • BSSP contracts all transportation services with a motor coach company rather than operating our own buses. • Trombly buses include the following safety features: > High-definition GPS systems, providing exact location and speed of a school bus at any time. > Child Check -Mate System®, an on -board electronic reminder system that reminds drivers to check for sleeping children before leaving the bus. > Flashing lights and extended stop arms to warn motorists that children are boarding or unloading. ➢ Buses that are digitally monitored by four (4) cameras located throughout the vehicle. > Well -anchored seats with high backs and heavy padding to create a protective seating area. > Drivers who are highly trained professionals with specialized training in student behavior management, loading and unloading, security and emergency medical procedures. Brooks School Summer Programs recognizes that asking parents to put their child on a bus requires a great deal of trust. When choosing to utilize our transportation service families can be confident that we put their child's safety first. Our approach to safety is multi layered, which is why we have partnered with Trombly Motor Coach Service, INC. Trombly invests in training, technology and equipment to ensure that they exceed industry standards. We appreciate the North Andover Health Department considering our request for a variance to State Sanitary Code Massachusetts 105 CMR 430.251.
