II.SOLDIERS AND SAILORS MONUMENT- The suggestion was made that the NAHC
take an active role in improving the landscaping of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument
which is now on the grounds of the new School Administration Building. Kathy Szyska ,
chairman, said that she had discussed the topic with Eva Hamori, chairman of the
Village Improvement Society. Kathy will contact Eva about possible support from the
Village Improvement Society. Also, any work done will have to be approved by the
Selectmen. C.J. said he would arrange for time on the Selectmen's agenda when
appropriate,
III. The OLD BURYING GROUND - Jim Wefers said that he had arranged for NAHC
members to meet with Al McGregor at 9:30 am Monday, June 26, to look at the
proposed wrought-iron gate.
!V. THE BERRY STREET PROJECT - Kathy and Anne told the group about their recent
visit to the Berry Street Project. Kathy described the free stone wall, granite pillars, and
signage for the burial ground. Jim had taken pictures of the site which he shared with
the group. The one problem was that the site had not been mowed. The project
manager explained that this was because they had to obtain a smaller mower that
would not damage the stones.
V. THE STEVENS ESTATE. Kathy described recent improvements at the
Stevens Estate where she attended a Village Improvement Society meeting.
VI. SUGGESTED STATUE -The Commission members
discussed a resident's suggestion to place a statue of Anne Bradstreet in
the Old Burying Ground. The Commission agreed that additions of that type
would be inauthentic and not appropriate in the Old Burying Ground
NEW BUSINESS
I MACHINE SHOP VILLAGE - Jan Williams, who is the NAHC liaison to the
Machine Shop Village District, explained that they had recently had a request to use
solar panels on a building roof. The request was denied, with the suggestion that solar
panels should not be used when there is a “streetside view" of the panels.
