NORTH ANDOVER HISTORICAL COMMISSION Minutes from meeting held May
8,2017
NOT PRESENT: Nick Pelletier
I. April minutes...one correction...the Dolly Farnum stone. Minutes accepted
unanimously after the above correction was made.
II.OLD BURYING GROUND...Kathy reported that the Fannins have been working in the
OBG and the work on the Dolly Farnum stone is completed. She will check with the
Fannins about dates that would be good for them for the OBG preservation Celebration
in 2018.
Jim Wefers said he would check with Al McGregor to select a day and time for
Commission members to view the possible gate replacement.
III. The Commission reviewed the CPA proposed Preservation Projects that would be
presented in the Warrant at Town Meeting. These included the following: The Second
Burying Ground- Ridgewood Cemetery - Stevens Library stonework -The Fire
Department display of the Lion and other early fire apparatus.
IV. THE SOLDIERS AND SAILOR MEMORIAL - There was discussion about ways to
make this memorial more attractive and visible. C.J. said he would ask the Patriot’s
Group about their plans for the memorial. If that group has no plans the Historical
Commission could work on ways to improve visibility and attractiveness. This will be
brought up at the June meeting.
V. BRADSTREET SCHOOL MARKER ETC - The Commission discussed possible
plans for the Bradstreet marker saved before demolition...and other Bradstreet School
memorabilia.
VI. ANNE BRADSTREET BOOK. Kathy explained that an author of a book about Anne
Bradstreet had requested permission to use a photo of the Anne Bradstreet
memorial stone (in the OBG) in her book. The permission was granted unanimously.
