HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-11-14 Historical Commission Minutes NORTH ANDOVER HISTORICAL COMMISSION Minutes from November 14, 2016 meeting All members present I. Minutes accepted with two corrections. II.OLD BURYING GROUND. Carol Majahad explained that Don Slater of Phillips Academy had a proposal to bring a group of students to the OBG for study purposes. One area they hoped to work on was digital mapping. He also suggested that students might work on matching stone fragments. Kathy Szyska (chairman) asked Carol to have Mr. Draper get in touch with her about the project plans. All members of the Commission agreed that the students should not be involved with matching stone fragments. Before the December meeting Kathy will speak with the Fannins and twill send a letter requesting an extension of the current CPA grant to cover the repair of the stone at the entrance of the OBG in the spring of 2017. Jim Wefers said he would invite the man who has a possible iron gate for the OBG entrance to attend the next meeting. Anne reported on her phone conversation with Halli Boggs, the manager of The Maker Mill. Ms. Boggs felt that their laser cutter could be used in the design and lettering of model gravestones to be used for rubbing. The Commission members agreed that signage should be placed in the OBG requesting that visitors respect the integrity of an historic graveyard. It was suggested that a handout be developed to share with teachers who plan class visits. II.BRADSTREET PROJECT Anne reported that she had spoken with Jean Enright at Community Development about the current plans for the Bradstreet Project. Two apartment buildings facing Saunders Street are advertising for tenants. The Main Street side of the project is being built for retail spaces and business offices. No completion date was available. III. BERRY STREET DEVELOPMENT -Kathy reported on her recent visit to the Berry Street site. The project manager she spoke with assured her that the burying ground is being protected and they will do some tree removal and landscaping once the apartment complex is complete. By law there will be public access to the Berry Street Burying Ground. The replica farmhouse built for offices and a clubhouse is complete. Commission members have been invited to visit this building. THE NEXT MEETING OF THE NORTH ANDOVER HISTORICAL COMMISSION WILL BE ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2016 AT 7PM, AT NORTH ANDOVER TOWN HALL.
