Monica -
As a follow up to our conversation last Friday, 4/13, 1 would like to formally request some relief
from the requirement for an independent construction monitor on my project. I talked with several
people on the list you gave me and they all said that they normally did much bigger development
projects and questioned the necessity, but were happy to oblige. My reasons for requesting relief
are:
• The requirement seems to be part of a boilerplate template used to document decisions that
apply without regard to the size or potential impact of the project.
• I was required to get, and have received, Conservation Commission approval to proceed.
Conservation is only requiring a preconstruction meeting and post construction meeting.
• The lot is flat and after erosion controls are place and inspected by Conservation the risk to
the watershed would be mitigated negating the need for weekly monitoring and reporting.
Please review my request with the board to see if Conservation's conditions can be used in lieu of
the independent construction monitoring requirement or if there is some other relief that could be
granted.
Thanks,
Steve Mason
