1973 was the year of the "Big D" at North "
Andover as defense was the key to North ,
Andover's success. Led by Frank Stewart, Jim
Greenwood, John Sansoucie and John Pickard,
the defense held the opponents scoreless in its
first four games. Altogether they gave up only
42 points in 9 games! E
The offense also had a good year. With Frank
Cunningham calling signals and Joe McManus
bulldozing his way for touchdowns. The offense
scored 135 points.
The North Andover High School Football . •t

Cheerleaders Karen Dargan
Hours of exercising, jumping, yelling, and balance stunts everyday t
can be pretty exhausting. But when you're a cheerleader, it's all worth
it. Leading the crowd in cheers at a game—whether it's football, basket-
ball, or hockey—you're letting the team know you're with them all
the way—and that's what snakes cheerleading a great experience.
Captain Carolyn Levy and Co-Captain Debbie Bryant and Advisor
Deborah Gesing and 11 other vivacious girls did a great job at keeping
up school spirit by holding two rallies, awarding the spirit stick to
the class with the most spirit at each football game and activating the
Pep Club.

> yx The Junior Varsity Field Hockey team had another
good season coming up with a 4-3-4 record. Co-
captains were juniors Jayne Gosselin and Marie
Sangermano. The purpose of a JV team is to gain
experience from interscholastic competition and this
' is exactly what the 1972 team did. Participating were
6 freshmen, 7 sophomores, and 2 juniors. Standouts
j on offense were Carlene Wilson and Lee Marchisio
while both Jayne Gosselin and Karen Kelley did a
good job in the goal.

The wrestling team, under the tutelage of Coach Crozier,
once again finished with a winning season. Team members
ranged from 80 to 220 pounds and produced winners in all
the weight classifications. As always success came from con-

This year's matmen were led by outstanding performances
from Dave Henderson, Frank Stewart, Joe Scire and Mickey

Student Advisory Committee—Ray Leo, Mary Connor, Barbara Plant, Sharon Austin,
Jane Brien, Celeste Palmieri.
Student Council
Student Council Officers—Deb Kennedy, Jane Brien, Sue
Zagorski.
Student Council, under the direction of Mr. Buco, was very active during the
1972-1973 season. Its forty-four members participated in the Christmas parade,
sponsored several dances, and collected for a scholarship drive. They also conducted
a very successful canned food drive, to aid the Salvation Army's Christmas appeal.
Throughout the years at NAHS, the main function of Student Council has been
to act as a mediary between the students and the faculty. It has tried to take the
problems of the student body and solve them in such a way as to be approved by
both the administration and students.

yearbook that they hope will record var-

Squire
Ile
+ _ The 1972-1973 Squire staff was extremely
successful, putting out 8 issues during this
school year. Many meetings were held Sunday
nights to organize the issues, many of which
were six page spreads. As well as complete cov-
erage of all high school happenings, the staff
tried many new contests and columns to arouse
't school interest. Editor-in-chief Susan Zagorski
and Assistant Editor Jayne Somers were largely
responsible for the organization and publication
of the Squire. Mrs. Enid Burns—advisor.

American Field Service
Although the American Field Service is a relatively new club at the high school, it has
already proven itself to be successful. Its members held a dance in October, sold football
programs and conducted a fund drive. The money collected went towards sponsoring a
foreign exchange student for a year and towards sending a North Andover student
abroad sometime in the near future.
This year's foreign exchange student was Bruce Klein from New Zealand. He served
as drum major for the band, and played electric bass in the stage band. He also took up
skiing, which he greatly enjoyed.
The 1972-1973 American Field Service welcomed Bruce warmly, and hopes that it
may have the benefit of meeting many more foreign students in the future. 91

The 1972 mini-courses were a tremendous success as students par-
ticipated in courses and sports that they previously had never come in
contact with. Everything from yoga to lifesaving, cake decorating to
ham-radio operating, was offered and while having a great time, stu-
dents benefited from the brief instruction. Never to be forgotten was
the mad dash from the bleachers toward the sign up desks to get the
courses of your choice.

youryearbook
The yearbook—it's the creation and the celebration of friendships.
Potentially, the yearbook staff can metamorphose its experience
into a book that is surprising, original, beautiful.
The people at O'Toole's know how to liberate that potential.
So you needn't go south or west to find someone to entrust your yearbook to.
We've been keeping our trust in the Northeast
for over three quarters of a century.
Graduate to O'Toole's.
