On June 17, 2016 we inspected the site following the tree removal effort. We noted several areas of silt fence that required attention, The contractor was notified and he immediately addressed the issue and fixed the erosion controls. It is important to note that no damage to the adjacent resource areas where noted during the inspection. The damage appears to have been the result of tree limbs falling during the tree removal effort. Please find attached photographs that were taken on June 17,2016. The contractor installed an additional row of trenched silt fencing and a row of straw bales to help insure protection to the downslope resource areas. The low point in the erosion controls has been reinforced with a row of straw bales. Over the weekend there was a significant rain event and as a result there are a few areas along the limit of work line that require attention, (see attached photographs). The central portion of the erosion controls was compromised and sediment migrated over the controls. The contractor was on site this morning and he and I went over the work required to remove the sediment from the buffer zone and to repair the erosion controls. There were two substantial rain events last week which resulted in some erosion on the steep slope to the north of the existing building. The contractor had already reinforced the erosion controls at the bottom of the slope prior to the storm events, however, he had to add additional straw bales in two locations that were accepting the majority of the stormwater. Some silt was observed on the leaves on the wetland side of the erosion controls in these two locations, however,the standing water in the wetland was not turbid and there did not appear to be any impact to the resource area. The contractor also placed additional straw bales in areas that stormwater was concentrating in an attempt to slow the velocity of the stormwater before it reaches the unvegetated slopes. The contractor plans to address the slope now that we are into the growing season and will more than likely use jute netting or something similar to hold the slope in place until it fills in with grass.
