Attached please find the findings of our inspection at 469 Boston Street.
There were some unresolved issues which will need to be re-examined. You can likely do so at the final grade inspection,
or we can do so if you'd like. They are noted on the report and also explained below:
• The distribution box did not have hydraulic cement at the pipe penetrations
• There was not enough water in the pump chamber to confirm the operation of the pump
• There was not even flow coming out of the distribution box to the three arms of the leach field. The branch closest to
the dwelling was not receiving much of any flow. They reported they were going to either adjust the pipes or d-box, or
else put in leveling devised inside the pipe. I asked them if they did the latter to check to make sure they have not
restricted the flow to the field when the pump turned on
The contractor was going to leave the distribution box area uncovered so these items can be reviewed at the final grade
inspection.

In looking at the plans there are a number of other features that look like they were survey located which could be
used as a replacement benchmark. For example there is a grade show on what appears to be the edge of the
driveway and another one on a different part of the house.
I would NOT encourage someone to use the bottom of something that they constructed as a benchmark since
anything that remotely relates to survey control is pure fabrication.
Why did the designer go along with this?Why did he not tell you about the other survey control points that he had?
I would approach this with a good degree of caution. The designer should provide a new benchmark and indicate to
you in writing what it is.

As discussed, enclosed is a sketch of benchmark revision.
Do to the original benchmark that was placed on a tree on site,which no
longer exists, the benchmark on approved drawing was interpolated, as best
possible. The contractor was instructed to verify the bottom of existing
system elevation, infiltrator, and report to engineer. Based on actual field
verification and to ensure that the bottom of proposed system meets the 4 ft.
of separation to groundwater, the benchmark on approved plan will require
modification. The difference in benchmark elevations is 0.4 ft. Therefore,
the contractor will now use a bottom of siding benchmark of 103.98', which is
shown on enclosed plan.

Attached is the sketch the designer sent me for 469 Boston St. It looks like he used the Bottom of Siding as the new
benchmark. The elevation he noted is .4 different than the plan states. Does he need updated elevations for the
inverts/system as well, or is this acceptable?Any feedback is appreciated.
