Andover MA In support of the planning and zoning board presentations Stu Clark from Green Seal Environmental asked us to write a brief synopsis of the proposed gun range construction. Texterior concrete masonry block and a steel joist/rubber membrane roofing system. It has a 20ft deep, two-level office mezzanine at the front and an open-to-above high bay maintenance shop at the rear. The proposed gun range concept subdivides the building into two 7500sf spaces to become an existing maintenance shop with support offices and the new two-level gun range. The sub-dividing wall will be constructed of reinforced, fully ballistic and sound attenuation purposes, as well as structural support for a new second level on the gun range side. The proposed 25ft by 75ft two- concrete blocks and steel truss roof, with identical sound and ballistic construction. Gun ranges will be on both floors: the existing ground level and a new structural concrete slab second floor. Each range will have walls a ballistic and sound absorbing panel system, as well as target retrieval systems and granulated rubber bullet traps. The target system mechanisms, lighting and sprinkler heads will be protected with steel baffles. Periodic cleaning of the bullet traps will occur, and the lead will be recycled. Each range will have its own positive exhaust ventilation system to control exposure to lead. These systems are separate from the general building ventilation. Supply air enters the range high behind the shooting stalls and circulates across each range to a filtered return air system at the bullet trap. Other building spaces separate from the ranges will have their own heating and ventilating systems. Respectfully Submitted, Port One Architects Inc. Wm. Davis AIA
