HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-09-05 Council on Aging Minutes Agenda, Finance Subcommittee Council on Aging Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. Members Present: John Graham, Joseph McCarthy, Maria Rosati {Treasurer}, David VanArsdale {Vice-Chair, COA} Excused: Patricia Riley The meeting of the Finance Subcommittee of the Council on Aging for North Andover began with Dave VanArsdale (Vice-Chair of the Council) calling the meeting to order and reading the required statement pursuant to Governor Baker's order suspending the Open Meeting Law requirements during this period of Covid-19 restrictions. The meeting was then turned over to Maria Rosati. Maria made a motion to name Dave VanArsdale as Chair of the Finance Subcommittee. There were no other names added for consideration. The vote of the three subcommittee members approved the motion. Dave VanArsdale then led the discussion related to the published agenda items. He reviewed the issues covered in the By-Laws of the Council on Aging. Discussion followed related to potential fund-raising events that might be held in conjunction with the Friends of the Senior Center. Some mention was made about the previous Glenn Miller Orchestra event and its successful fund-raising. Discussion quickly moved into the severe limitation of the present Covid-19 restrictions and the obvious difficulty in large gatherings of citizens. Comments quickly followed that our Subcommittee needs to establish consistent relationship with the Friends of the Senior Center Committee. Dave VanArsdale reassured others that he would be in touch with the new President of the Friends and invite her to the next subcommittee meeting. Again, the comments were made about the difficulties of functioning under the severe restrictions of Covid-19. Maybe things will be different as we move into the New Year. The subcommittee then discussed briefly the budget process within the Town for the Council on Aging and Elder Services. We recognize that we need a further education from Irene Obrien and maybe others in the Town to gain a more complete understanding of how the budget process actually works. With this first meeting of the new Finance Subcommittee there was little to be decided and more investigation was needed for future meetings. A motion was made by Maria Rosati to adjourn. Motion was seconded and approved by all members.
