Subject: Brooks School, Soccer Field Renovation
Dear Ms. Tyman:
Enclosed you will find two (2) sets of plans and details for the renovation of an existing soccer
field and associated site improvements at the Brooks School in North Andover. As you will see
on the attached plans and details all work has been located outside of the Lake Cochichewick
Watershed Protection District, and also outside of the 100' buffer zone to the nearest bordering
vegetated wetland.
The existing survey showing the limits of the Watershed Protection District line was prepared by
Marchionda & Associates LP, dated December 6, 2013. The nearest wetlands were delineated by
Wetland Preservation, Inc. on November 19, 2013 and have been included on the Marchionda
Survey. See attached plans for additional information.
We have been working with our Civil Engineer, Barbara J. Thissell, P.E. in the preparation of
drainage calculations. The results of those drainage calculations show no increase in peak flow
during the 1, 2, 10 & 100 years storm events. The only impervious surfaces being created in this
project include pedestrian walkways and viewing areas. There is no plan to expand existing
parking areas or roadways as a part of this project. As you will note on the plans, there will be a
significant amount of recharge of stormwater associated with the project, and all the DEP
stormwater standards have been met.
With the exception of a small group of trees on the northeast corner of the field, no additional
trees are anticipated to be removed. We have also included a planting and landscape plan in the
enclosed drawings. The intent of the planting is to replace those trees being lost, provide shaded
areas for the users, and increase the aesthetic value of the site upon arrival from Great Pond Road.
The plans have accounted for construction fence around the limit of work, staging areas and the
installation of erosion control measures. Construction is anticipated to begin in June of this year,
and be complete by September 2014.
Given the above, we do not anticipate any required permits through the Town of North Andover.
Having said that, I am sure you have questions and I would be happy to work with you throughout

Dear Ms. Tyman:
Enclosed you will find two (2) copies of a Land Disturbance Permit Application for the
renovation of an existing soccer field and associated site improvements at the Brooks School in
North Andover. As you will see on the attached plans and details all work has been located
outside of the Lake Cochichewick Watershed Protection District, and also outside of the 100'

Thanks for taking the time to meet with me on Monday to review the scope of work. As this
scope represents a reduction in the proposed work approved by the Planning Board in 2009, and
the work has been moved outside the buffer zones of the watershed and bordering vegetated
wetlands, I agree with your decision to review this work administratively. I understand that you
may want to have the drainage study reviewed by Lisa Eggleston, and Brooks School does not
have any objection with that request.

Jean, as we discussed, I would like to propose that we include Curt on our weekly Construction Update and Project
Notes with site photographs in leiu of the required environmental monitor. This will provide a more detailed review of
construction, more frequent updates and less cost to the client. I have attached a sample set of project notes from our
work at Central Catholic in Lawrence. This could be a condition of approval in place of the environmental monitor.
I would be happy to create a standing paragraph providing a status of the erosion and sediment control on site.
Please let me know if this is acceptable....thanks!

4. HAI to review the status of other items needing a foundation and/or building permit,
including the retaining walls, grandstand, scoreboard and sports lighting. GALC required to
provided stamped structural submittal drawings on all of the above.
5. HAI review the product submittal for the retaining walls. The product submitted was Roman
Wall as manufactured by UniLock. CCHS selected the "Granite" color for the project,
Trident questioned why an equal product was submitted, GALC to respond. Stamped
drawings are typically provided by the manufacturer after the approval of the wall product.

light blue MLax lines to extend all the way across the field on the inside of the 30 yard line.
The final drawings reflect this change. No further review required.
7. HAI review the access from Hampshire Street to provide a pedestrian pathway to the field.
Due to the anticipated cost of construction of the new walk and stairs CCHS requested that
HAI stop any further design and engineering related to this access. CH offered that as we
move forward we will insure that the new improvements do not prohibit future installation of
stairs, walks and ramps in this location if so desired by CCHS.
8. Construction Update-Progress since last meeting:
a. Topsoil removal is complete.
b. Debris, brick and coble is noticeable throughout limit of excavation,as anticipated.
c. The chamber/void identified by the geophysical survey has been excavated and
opened. Several chambers and/ cisterns were found throughout the southeast section
of the site. Large granite block has been pulled from the excavation and stockpiled on
site. Trident engaged UTS to review the existing condition and make a
recommendation. DMM reported that UTS recommended GSI, who performed the
original geotechnical investigation, be retained to review and provide
recommendations to re-compact and stabilize the subgrade. HAI to contact GSI and
schedule a site inspection.
d. Block/foundation stone to be reused is being stockpiled by GALL. HAI to coordinate
with GALC to find a suitable method for reuse of the block/granite in the landscape
areas adjacent to, or within, the project site.
Outstanding Items from 5.15.14
9. CH presented the audio system components, layout and materials cost. Components provided
by Pro Acoustics at a total cost of$10,817.21. CH stated that to the best of our knowledge

immediately after our meeting.
2. The existing sports light poles and fixtures are to be removed by GALC and loaded for
transport by others. GALC to provide one week advance notice to CCHS to assist in
scheduling the transport.
Outstanding Items from 5.8.14
1. National Grid Power Line Relocation:
a. RC/DMM reported that the Lawrence City Council is reviewing the application for
hvo new utility poles in Auburn Street. Both applications are scheduled for final
review on 5.20.14. Trident to update the project team on progress.
b. DMM has requested NGrid provide a construction schedule for pole and utility line
installation. No schedule is yet available. HAI expressed concern that a delay in
NGrid's power line relocation could result in a delay to the turf field construction
project. Trident to discuss this issue with the Mayor's office to see if assistance could
be provided by the City of Lawrence to influence the utility line construction
schedule. DMM to coordinate with Gino Baroni and report back to the group.
c. Update: DMM stated that NGrid has confirmed that the project is in "Scheduling".
