Dear fir, Cliessia,
In response to your review of the revised plan, showing a modification to the subsurface
detention structures, that was issued on May 15, 1998, the total number of structiucs in
Subsurface Detention Facility S-D.F.) #4 should be 216, instead of the 200 indicated on the,
plan 197 were actually shown). The additional nineteen 19) structures are now shown on a
revised plan, dated June I, 1998 (enclosed herewith),
Tn addition, one (1) structure has been added to S.D.F. # , which will now have 27
structures, instead of 26, and one structure has been deleted ftom S.D.S. #1, which will now
have 45 struetur'es, instead of 46.
The Flood Storage Facility, known as `413', is revised Form the approved plan- Actually, the
overall surface area has increased from 9520 sg- I 119 culverts r 8' x 101), to 10,3691- sq-
ft- (based on the manufacturer's drawing, Rom wWch a paint is enclawd).
The enclosed revised plans are submitted for your review, reflecting all of these changes.
Please wntact ine should you have any gueaiorns or comments.

Dear Ms, ColwelL
Regarding thesubject, please find enclosed herewith a plan depicting the location of
subsurface leaching pits to be constructed on the site,
This plan depicts a size of leaching pit wbich is slightly different those dimensions shown on
the original plan As a result of the chatige in diinension ofthe leaching fit„ a change iin the
total number of leaeWng pits results. However, there is no loss of flood storage capability as a
result of thesubstitution orthese leaching pits,. You will also note: that changes in the drain
inanhote locations and associating piping in detention facility 3 results from, the cbange in pit
dinwnsion.
,you will note that the enclosed revised plan also delineates the revised location of the
electrical transforiner as was discussed previously xvith you by Robert Daley, P,,E,, of this
firm,
We are taking the liberty of forwarding a copy of this Plan to,Mr. Chessia with this
correspondence, and requesting his review and corn .lent, in ac,(;ordance with your previous

DearJohn.
This letter is written to address the issues, and concerns expressed in your letter dated April 8,
1997, to Kathleen Colwell, pertaining to this subject drainage system analysis and d sip un..
These responses are, in the order ofthose items contained witlnin that correspondence.
PRE-DEVELOPMENT CONDITIONS
I, The assumption that the existing catch basin would overflow is not envisioned
r anticipated, Also,, the existing detention pond nd at Jasinine Plaza was,
e arastruueted to handle euyl t:laa sin face runoff ar7a the R unt portion f'Jurirne ;1
Plaza, as verified on an As-Built Plan., The model is consistent in ev puu trig the
Pre-Development ernt and Post-Development conditions with respect to thin.a i,stirn
4 RCP drain and tail water affect (held constant at EL = 233 throughout the
storm, bei ng, set approximately between 230.16 and 23 6. 4),, Most likely, with
the la9-effect of the riff-site flooding, with a three-houar iffere e between the
peak flow periods of on-sit+ and off-site (flood pl in)*rogrrupins,' wee feel that
e are conservative: and, again, consistent in the drainagemod 1,
,. The flow path for drainage area 91, being an area with stockpiled materials, has
of sheet flow, and shallow concentrated flow, with. channel #lour along this
street gutter lisle„ to an existing catch basin in Mc Lay Road, as shown on the
"Pre-Development Contributory Areas7" Plan,
„ These cover types were used to closelyapproximate what the ground cower
appears,to resemble, being or sparse and lightly vegetated snail.
Mr. Jolui Chessia
April 8,, 19197
Page 2
4. The runoff will eventually flow off site, although a slightly "negative" slope of
this existing, 12" drain pipe may exist,
ist,
51., The proposed subsurface storage facility will intercept the maxitnum groitridwater
c ruc oil
level,, during construction, in particular, and, to a lesser extent alder onst ti
due to the extent ofirnpervious surface area, as proposed, Which may result in a
lower water table thereafter.
POST-DEVELOPMENT CONDITIONS
6, The latest plans have been previously mailed with the set of materials, as of
March. 21, 1997., No plan changes have been done since that Submittal.
However, a copy of these plans are enclosed herewith, ensuring that optimum
legibility for interpreting the design and installation of the two subsurface
facilities is attained.
T curve nuinber of 90 was used instead of 98 for the roof area in the analysis
to offset the conservatism in, specifying that the roof surface was ' unpaved and
that "ponding7 would occur on the roof ror pre-development, the roofs are
pitched to discharge directly to the ground presumably for all exis,t in, roof
surfaces on the site,
" A
:8. This difference in area is,due to the alteration in drainage patterns along Route
114, whereas the; runoff from Route 114 onto McLay's property will be reduced
as a result of the proposed curbing and grading.
9. These areas Wilfbe I andscaped or sodded, resu th ng i n, a slower rate of runoil, and,
lower runoff volume, with relatively low peak runoff rates, using the longest flow
paths, as measured from the plans,. The resulting"time of concentratioif% less
than 10 minutes, are:rewnable for each area.
I I 'p
10. The only justification, for,this,0.10:foot low er elevation be ow t h e in iv PI e:
outlet in the computer model is to establish aflat bottom, area greater than zero at
the invert,, which.is also the bottom of the pit. The effect,, though, is insignificant
to the resultant flow and storage volume,

1,1, There is no ponding area proposed over the parking, area, as the:proposed
swales will allow for unobstructed flow to, the catch basin due to the continuous
411 pitch being provided, discentible on plan sheet 95, where a contour(238) is now
shown, which wraps around the catch basin.
11 rely the pipe is proposed to,be constructed under the compactor (westerly
side). On the easterly side,
a catch basin is proposed, to b loc h e beat under te
compactor. 'This catch basin shown on sheet H,5,, would quickly collect any
grease, oil, etc, should there be a leak witfun the compactor or hydraulic unit.,
13. Since Subcatchment Area#3, #4,, and #5 are routed through the proposed
"OWWater Separator" Unit winch will have an 8':' outlet, intending to generate a
"head" inside the unit, there will be a restriction in flow, approximately, equivalent
to a 12" pipe flowing,full.
14, The tail titer coindition Will virtually prevent any outflow from Facility #3 and #4,
thereby allowing accumulation or retention, of nearly 10,0% of the runoff from the
2 year storm event.
15. During the 100 year,storm event, there would be a completely backed-up
drainage system upstream offacifity 92, but would not cause:flout Out of the
catch basin, with,a rim elevation of 237.5. No detritnental impact is expected.
16, According to,the building design staff at "'Stop, and Shop", the roof drains will be
routed through the building-
17, These are 6' PVC pipes, as shown. The invert and material of the pipes have
been added (.refer to sheet#51).
18,, The structures have been numbered, for better identification(refer to sheet #5)
19. We have lowered the inven, elevation, from 235.9 to,23513, thereby increasing
the pipe slope*om 1%, to 2%, to facilitate a proper connection at the side of the
structure (Model "2000U), at facility#L (refer to sheet#5)
20. The plait lias been revised to show an 8" pipe instead of a 6" pipe out of
facility #1 (refer to sheet :#5),

21, This surcharge will occurr temporarily durin,g the peak period of runoff and
will not have any detrimental impaQt on the integrity of these piping, sat ems.,
22.) The HydroCAD Prograni used in the computer model does not have tile
capability to iterate such, occurrences as backwater or tai at r ct
throughout the storm event, However, relating back to item :91, using a constant
, w
tail ater elevation of 233, throughout the storm is a no restriction to
acknowledge the effect, on an averaging approximation, that backwater can
create throughout the systern.
23. Upon conipletion of all.design changes and revisions, as a result Of these review
conunents, and prior to approval by the Planning Board, the final drawings will
be generated, plotted onto mylar,, signed and starnped with revision date.
Sfinflarly, the drainage report will be finalized, reviewed, stamped and signed, and
resubmitted,
F,,LOODIPLAIN DETERMINATION
The off-site flood waters will back up into our proposed storage facility through ary
series of 24" pipes, as shown on the revised plan (refer to"Flood Storage Facility"'
plan).
The original design had 12"', 15" and 18" pipes, with limited hydraulic capacity to
handle the back low volume. The revised design, using 24"' pipes througho,ut the three
(3) fficilities, will, simulate the flow rates in the pre-development flooding condition,
Please review the above and enclosure (a complete set of revised plans) and please contact me
