Dear Members ortlie Board:
We have reviewed the cominerEts from "Timothy Willett 0rtile North Andover Division of
Public, Wor s, in his letter to the Town Planner, dated May 1, 2001, regarding the subject
project. OUT resPOWSes to these copnments are as foflows, in order as presented in lifs letter-
1. The e4imated water use is a function of the, volume of cars. Typically,
Saturday would be the busiest clay. Between 70% and 900N of wash and rinse
water is reoycled- The rinse wa-ter is recycled back to tht, wash water. It is
estimated by Robert Roos at Canm erv, Effie manufacturer of the wafer
recycling/recovery system, who suggests that a 5000 gallon storage tank could
be provided to accumulate a 24 hour storage volume, which could be Fetained
and discharged into the sewerage system at off-pea k hours, i C necessary, using a
motarized butterfly valve on a Oner, or a pump setup on a inner- This volume.
would be equally replaced with make-Lip water.
2. The, plan has been revised to change the water service pipe size from 12" to 8
Which will be Connected to tlic existing 8" stab-
I No COMFnent i-equii-ed.
4, Rem ##2 on sleet #8, under "1 atcr Main Notes", has been i-evised to read "200
psi", instead of"l 50 psi".
. A detaiI of the proposed back flow preventor shall be sent to Dennis Bedrosian
for review and approval prior to oonstruction-
G. Tl,e chemicals to be used in the process will be biodegradable soa'Ps and
silicone 1)ased drying agents. These product brof.h ures shall be obta1net[ and
sent to Mr. Bedrosian for Jjis review and aplxruVal prior to operatiOn of the

E Route 114 Car Wash— Sewage Flaw Estimation
Dear Mr. Willett.
e spoke with Mr. David Bruno of Mc eiI Wash Systems in Providence, Rhode Island on
Thursday, May 24, 200 1. He is a consultant and sales representative of car wash system,
components, and ht may be given the order to supply all of the equipincnt for this oar wash.
"`Y'>LTiVN.,-rL" .`OLUMF
He indicated tliat between 1 and 1.5% of the, vehicle trips on Route 114, cstirliated ctt
30,000 peF clay, could conceivably use this car wash "Tunnel" at this Route 114
location- This would be between 300 and 450 cai-washes- At a mini inuni, 70% OC
roximately b gallons per w
the car wash water is 1ecy :led- App ash is esiiniatcdo be
discharged- This would amount to 2700 gallons per day of discharge to the 'rown
sewerage system- Assu3ne a six ) liour day for peak flow raft purposes, the Fate of
discharge would he 7-5 gpm over the six hour period.
"COIN-OP" VOLUME
He indicated that the 5 bays could use 7 gallons per cycle an average of 2 cycles per
washed vehicle)- This could conceivably generate water usage of 1400 gallons per
clay, based on 200 cycles per day. This would aniount to 1400 gallons pot- day which
would be discharged to the sewer (3-9 gp3Tn over a six ( ) hour period)-
lvlr_ Timothy Willett
May 30, 2001
Page 2
SUMMARY
The estimated total discharge volume to be anticipated would be 27001 1440, or
4100 gallons per clay. Based on these quantities, it is recommended that a 7000
gallon "recyclingg' tank and a 5000 gaIIon"overfloW' tank should be provided, The
"overflow" tank would be pumped out daily, during off-peak or specified tunes, into
the Town sewer. Tbf-; would be necessary if the Town sewerage system could not
handle the total of 1 t.4 (say 15) gpm, during peak flow periods (weekends).
