Since that time the structure of the building bas daegradcd and is In need ofteplacernient, This building encloses a plartion ortbe, inclined.ash conveyor, ash storage, and, ash, loadoul oplorallons. "Me project ibivolves constructing a now pre-cast concrele partial, structure: lo replace the existing, steel structure which, has experienced, currosion, to the point where localized repairs, are not considered pracitcal or feasible, The new pre-cast concrete panel structure will be less susiceptiblie to corrosion caused by the ash, and inoisture, resulting in a longer life span than a steel structure and provide a better working environment for maintenance and, operating, personnel. "I"he new pre-cast concrete panel structure will occupy the same foolpirint as the existing, ash house struvitre. The intent Is to mairit*,essonflally'lhe same building dimnensions, though minor changes Inay be ineeded to accommodate the pre-cast panel installialion. Othor upgrades boin,g made in this project are to r6l"altle the wet scrubber to, fficifitaLe better access for maintenance and system operations. In addition,,upgrades to the flyasli conditions sysivilm are:also'hi proposed. These are described in moire detail below. Construtdon Sigggencing Summary The demolition ofilie existing asli house structure and coastructioni ofthe new pre-cost concrele panel building will be completed in two(2) phases. The first phase will, focus on reconstruction of the Main Ash Storage Sectton, Refer tin,Hi0flander Engineering Dirailli No. D-M-1 16-16-1 XP-3.1. The Second phase will, focus on reconstruction of the T ruck Ray Section, Refer to Highlander Engi needilng 1)rawing No,Di-M-116-16-1 X11-31.1 UULj.-fflAjj,,l, SoLage Section The: Main Ash 'Storage Section will be re-constructed first. Prior to start of demolition, a temporary conlainment-wall will be installed along, and adjacent to, Calutmit Line S1 This conlafrimont-waill will! Isolate the Truck Bay, Section from the Main Ash Storage Section,,The'Truck Bay Section, will also be temporally extended beyond the vivest irollup door to ficlilhate loading activities within a totally enclosed envelope, The existing Inclined ash conveyor will be terniplerarily modified so the discharge point of the conveyor Will be over the Truck Bay Section. This modifled toadout arrangernentwill be in place while the existing st=ture enicompassing the larger Main Asit Storage Section is demnlished, and the new pre- cast conm4c: panel structure cuteted. Asti, trucks will back,Into the truck bay through an existing rollup door on the east side ofthe building. Trucks, will be loaded emd clileancid as needed prior to exiting the building. All trailers wi I I be appropriately covered wi 11i tarps prior to,transport. ,Ash will be loaded into trailers on a continuous basis during reconstruction of the Main Ash Storage Section. Ash trucks Will IT'anspart the ash to the Shrewsbury, MIA landfill during the landfill receiving hours. During off hours trailers will be loaded and parked within the Refuse Receiving Building i(also, known as the"Tipping,Minor). This storage arrangement will flacil filate, adequate containment,,and keep the clomp trailers Ii being, exposed to the weather whille awalting, transport. Trailers may also be staged near the =, tals stoma area, any stomwater that falls in this area is recovered by the facility wastewater system, for reuse and is not discharigpd. During this phase, any durnp trailers found to be:oveoveight will betaken to the enclosed Tipping Floor :and: where an appropriate, amount of ash will 'he remnived to: tri DOT weight limitations prior to shipment. ne ash that is removed will either be,mloaded Into an empty or underweight trailer,or pushed into the waste slorage pit,and processed. Upon completion of the: Mahn rash Storage Section construction activities, the temporary inodificafloas, made to ifie Inclined ash conveyor will be removed, restoring the corweyor discharge point within the Main Ash Storage Section, completing Phase 1 consiruction of the Main Ash Storage Section, Phiisv H-T[Uck &,j&d[ga Phase It involves, the: reconstruction of the Truck Bay Section of the Ash Building. The Truck Bay is where, ash trucks are staged while being loaded with ash 'by a front end loader.
