Good morning Steve,
I inspected the septic system on different occasions and witnessed the ongoing installation of the excavation. sand fill and
piping.
I wish to communicate and inform you that the system has been installed in general conformity to the approved design
plan.
With an instrument survey, the leach field piping and all other components were located. The beginning of line P3 is
located at 100.4 ft>100 ft min. from the nearest wetland flag.
The septic tank is 11.4 ft off the foundation.
The end of the leaching field is 30 ft off the abutters lot line.
All materials are clean and appear to be installed correctly.
Sand fill was used beneath all the piping from the house to the D. Box.
A D. Box water flow test with clean water was used and no back flow was found. Speed levelers were installed in the 3
outlet pipes of the D. Box.
Elevations along the 4" PVC distribution lines were measured and found to meet the required slope of 0.005/'.
The trenches comply with the length, spacing and width and the trenches are 0.2 feet higher than the design plan.
A vent was instituted with the gravity leaching system.
The tee is located on the site at the D. Box and not yet installed. I have communicated to Jonathan that the Tee should
be installed to meet the plan specifications. The pipe slope to the D. Box is 5.3%.
At this time, I find that the system was installed in general conformity with the design plan and is ready for backfill cover
providing your final inspection and Mill River review of the system. This weather forecast for this coming weekend is
expecting rain.
Upon my return to the office, I will forward a PDF file of the progress plan of the as-built plan for your review.
Final stamped submittal will be provided after the final cover of the system has been made.
Should you have any questions, please contact me.
As mentioned, I will be out of state as of this Wednesday until Sunday afternoon.
Respectfully yours,
Erich R. Nitzsche, PE

Jonathan and Chad,
Attached is a PDF file of the septic design profile for your review and the leaching field in plan view showing existing
grades I measured.
The plan view shows the current as-built elevations at every 10 ft sections along the 3 distribution lines.
1. The bottom of trench, P1, is 0.2 ft higher than design. I'm satisfied with this as no issues with final grading would
appear to hinder anything.
2. Sand, stone and peastone material appear to be clean and in good condition.
3. The elevations shown on the leach field plan view are the inverts. With every 10 foot sections, a 0.05 ft drop is
expected. Over 60', a minimum of 0.30' drop is needed.
There are some minor adjustments needed in the distribution lines to maintain a 0.0057 drop in each 10' section.
4. 1 suggest using speed levelers in the D. Box outlets as a 0.02 difference exists. This will enhance and promote equal
flow distribution to the 3 lines.
5.. The first 2 ft of each pipe existing the D. Box needs to be flat. Line P2 is higher than P1 and P3 at the beginning.
6. The top of the septic tank is 109.84 feet, not 111.0 ft. This is lower than plan design by 1.2 feet. With the field
elevating up 0.2 ft, it would appear this lower tank elevation would provide a 1.3 ft drop from the tank outlet to the D. Box
inlet. Please verify in the field, that the outlet pipe maintains a minimum slope of 1% since the tank location has been
shifted to the side of the house.
After adjusting the distribution lines for grade, I can perform the D. Box flow test with clean water.
If Steve Casey has no objection with the location of the septic tank situated some 5ft off the bulkhead, I'd be incline to
accept this. The septic tank is more than 10 ft off the building foundation.
Please contact me after the distribution lines have been adjusted as I plan to locate the system components for location
at the same time to measure the inverts again.
Thank you.
Erich

Gentlemen,
Good to have all this communication.
With my inspection yesterday at 4 pm, I took notice of some
organic soil removed and a portion of the boulder hammered.
My thoughts and requests are....
1 . I'm good with the boulder hammered out as long as the
boulder is not within the primary or reserve trench area. If the
boulder can be hammered further to give some comfort room for
the side wall leaching area, I'm good. In my opinion, the boulder
can lay within the 5 foot over dig sand fill area.
2. 1 prefer more organic sub soil to be removed from the first 20-
30 feet of the system area nearest the house prior to sand fill
placement.
3. The track machine sits in the excavation hole packing the soil.
When the machine exits the excavation hole, the entire bottom
area should be scarified and loosen.
4. 1 would prefer to inspect the bottom area when this is
completed prior to any placement of the Title 5 sand fill. I should
be available afternoon.
5. With my initial inspection on Sunday, grades with a level
instrument revealed the bottom at or near elevation 103.9 to
104.7 ft. The bottom is at the appropriate elevation. A little more
organic soil removal should be made.
I believe I have everything covered.
The Board of Health seems to concur as well.
Thank you.

I can make it out shortly after 12pm today to take a look. Please ensure, as discussed, the pit is free of
large rocks (generally, anything over 6 inches in size), the areas noted by Erich and myself have been
addressed, and the entire bottom of the bed has been scarified. If any issues arise affecting the re-
inspection time, please let me know. A member of our contracted septic company will be in town later today
and can take a look if any area is not in compliance.

Hi Jonathan,
Thank you for the update. If Erich confirms that he is fine with a portion of the boulder
remaining in the overdig, that is fine with me. And that's great, I'm glad the rocks were not
too much of a hassle to remove.
What time would you like to set for the reinspection? Does 12pm work for you? I can also
take a look at the sample of sand on site to make sure it appears to meet Title 5
requirements. Please make sure the bed bottom is scarified after that last pocket of organic
soil is removed, and as long as all other items discussed are addressed we should be good
to go.
Thank you,
Stephen

Good morning Stephen-thanks for coming back yesterday. I had left site just before 4pm
for a meeting and returned around 5pm. Erich visited the site in that window and
inspected the bottom of bed. I spoke with him on the phone and he said there is one
more pocket of organic soil that should be removed, which will be completed after the
portion of the boulder is removed. I started hammering the boulder from 3pm to 4pm, and
continued from 5pm to 6pm and most of it is removed. I expect to be finished by 9:30 this
morning so if we could have another inspection around lunch time that would work out
well.
Before confirming the order of the hammer rental yesterday I spoke to Brian LaGrasse
just to be sure of the extend of the boulder that would need to be removed. He said he is
OK with the portion of the boulder in the overdig area to remain as long as Erich is OK
with that too, and he is - Erich can you please confirm that in a reply-all to this email?
Lastly, I was able to excavate the rocks that you had pointed out to me yesterday. Both
were loose-one was small and basically on the surface, the other was a bit larger and
took a little persuasion to remove - but both have been addressed.
Thank you,

Erich,
I did the bottom of the bed inspection today at 10am and revisited the site
around 2-2:30pm. Jonathan and Chad were working on addressing the
boulder you noted that is encroaching into the field. Additionally, there were
some large rocks noted in the bottom of the bed. Some of these(towards
the center) had been removed. I noted a few to Jonathan in the afternoon
that remained. Please ensure these are removed from the bottom of the
bed. I have CC'd both Jonathan and Chad on this email to help facilitate
communication.
As for the boulder, please keep me up to date on what the plan is
moving forward. I know Jonathan was going to work on removing as much
as possible first today. If you could touch base with me tomorrow morning
on how that went or a plan, that would be ideal.
will wait to hear from you and/or the installer. As a general note, I will be
out of the office beginning tomorrow afternoon through Thursday, but will
do my best to make myself available by email.
