I spoke with Mark Finn this afternoon and understand that you had a few comments during your final as-built field inspection. I received these comments second hand,so if they are not answered fully please let me know. 1.Comment regarding the holes in low point of the vent pipe. • This is standard practice for us on all septic designs and is also noted in the Presby manual. The holes allow for any condensation build up(not effluent)to drain from the vent pipe. If not present, condensation can build up and actually choke a system of air. Attached is the vent detail from the Presby manual that calls for holes to be drilled at the low point. 2.Comment regarding different benchmark. • When the survey crew was on site performing the layout for the field they observed that the tree with the benchmark along Mill Road was removed(evidence of old tree still in the wires). A new benchmark along Johnson Street was set by the crew in a tree near the leaching field(along Johnson Street)to make things easier for the installer. The benchmark behind the house still remains and was cross referenced to the new benchmark. 3.High vent supplying sufficient draft. • Based on discussions with the installer it is our understanding that the roof vent supplies sufficient draft. Per the Presby design manual, the roof vent will function as the high vent if there are no pumps, restrictions,or other vents between the low vent and the roof vent(See attached section of manual). The plumbing was inspected by the installer and no pumps, restrictions or other vents were observed. It is also our understanding that the interior plumbing was inspected and signed off by the town's plumbing inspector. Please advise if this all makes sense and it is ok to finish backfilling the system. Items 2&3 make sense. Whenever a new benchmark appears the Town needs to know that it was established by the designer and not the installer, and if the engineer of record is ok with the venting of the EnviroSeptic system then it is not the Town's role to question that. Item 1 does not. The detail in the manual for the EnviroSeptic says the connecting pipe invert must be above the top of the d-box or highest EnviroSeptic line. Hi Dennis, Thank you for taking the time to discuss the constructed vent manifold for the Presby Enviro-Septic installation at 851 Johnson Street,North Andover(MA)this morning. As discussed, this leaching facility was designed as a serial distribution sloped system. A vent manifold was constructed coming off the end of each serial distribution set of Presby pipes(3 total). The vent manifold then runs down hill, where the vent then turns vertical at the edge of the sand fill. Since the vent manifold is going downhill, and has the potential to have condensation build at the low point we had the contractor drill a few holes in the low point(at the 90 deg elbow)and place crushed stone below in order to allow any condensation build up to drain from the vent line. Can you please confirm that the vent manifold as designed and installed(with holes drilled at low point)is acceptable and in conformance with the Presby design manual? Hi Dennis, Thanks for taking time this afternoon to discuss the vent manifold again for this project. Per our discussion, the vent that was constructed for this is just a typical low vent connected with a vent manifold. It is NOT a remote vent that is depicted and detailed in the DEP Approved Enviro-Septic Design and Installation Manual. Therefore the connecting pipe inverts for this project DO NOT need to be above the highest point of the D-box and all of the ES lines. A detail for a typical low vent and vent manifold is not shown in the DEP approved design manual. The vent and vent manifold,as installed,is in full compliance with the approved design manual(i.e.vent manifold installed through offset adapters,4"vent line installed based on<1,000 linear footage of Presby Pipe,etc.). Can you please confirm these statements are accurate and based on the photos and discussions we had that the vent/vent manifold installed for this project is not a remote vent. The installed vent/vent manifold is a typical low vent/vent manifold that is not illustrated in the approved design manual? Appreciate the help and clarifications. I do not see it depicted as such in the EnviroSeptic manual, and intuitively it simply makes little sense to allow a downgradient situation that could allow direct discharge of effluent in the event the EnviroSeptic system were to become clogged. Questions please: 1.Some of the images depict the vent on the uphill side of a sloping EnviroSeptic system and others show it on the downhill side. Could you move this vent to the uphill side and avoid the need to have any weep holes? Page 26 does not seem to indicate which side of the soil absorption system the vent is located. 2.This situation very much seems to be what is depicted in the image on page 27. For example, the differential vent detail that shows a low vent does not illustrate the invert of the vent manifold above the Presby Pipe. Per my discussions with the alternative technology manufacturer's senior technical advisor, the venting situation that was constructed is NOT considered a remote vent and is not depicted in the approved manual. The technical advisor reviewed the photos and concurred that it is acceptable and compliant with the design manual for venting requirements. Venting a system down gradient is a common engineering practice that is utilized on Presby and other types of leaching facilities. It was also discussed with Presby that adding the weep holes in the vent line would not pose a direct discharge of effluent hazard. If the vent line was to see any effluent, the system would have to be in failure. If effluent did manage to get into the vent line, the few small weep holes would become clogged extremely fast. It should also be noted that the vent location is at the edge of system sand at an elevation well above the ESHWT. Evidence of breakout on the ground would most definitely be occurring at the same time and would pose a much larger health hazard. In response to your questions: 1.The vent is allowed to be on the uphill or downhill side of the system. Per our discussions with Presby, the vent is installed per the design manual and guidance of the manufacturer. We are request that it stays as is. 2.It is not a remote vent per the statements of the manufacturer. Per the technical advisor"We routinely have low vents on the downslope side of the field, even extending some distance from the field, but we haven't consider this a remote vent". Since it is not considered a remote vent, the remote vent detail https://mai l.google.com/mail/u/0/?i k=fb8Oa9478f&view=pt&sea rch=all&permth id=th read-f%3Al 739449634145629478&si m pl=msg-f%3A1739449634... 9/21 9/20/22,4:28 PM Town of North Andover Mail-851 Johnson-As-built comments follow up shown in the approval manual does not apply to this project. Since it is not considered a remote vent, the remote vent detail shown in the approval manual does not apply to this project. Although the sloping vent detail shown on the approved plans is no longer shown in the MA design manual,it was confirmed with Presby that this construction detail is still valid. If we confirm that all the vent lines(3 total)are 6"above the connected Presby Pipe(so invert is 2"above Presby Pipe)and matches the detail on the approved plans will that be sufficient? If not we will have the contractor re-plump the vent line to be on the uphill side of the system if that will be sufficient for approval. Please advise as this system is still open. Town of North Andover Mail can't verify the authenticity of attached mE We routinely have low vents on the downslope side of the field, even extending some distance from haven't consider this a remote vent. Adding the weep holes at the lower vent elbow provides means to drain. We don't detail this very well in the manual. My apologies. Hi Dennis, Thanks for taking time this afternoon to discuss the vent manifold again for this project. Per our discussion, the vE constructed for this is just a typical low vent connected with a vent manifold. It is NOT a remote vent that is depict the DEP Approved Enviro-Septic Design and Installation Manual. Therefore the connecting pipe inverts for this pr to be above the highest point of the D-box and all of the ES lines. A detail for a typical low vent and vent manifolc DEP approved design manual. The vent and vent manifold, as installed, is in full compliance with the approved dE vent manifold installed through offset adapters, 4"vent line installed based on <1,000 linear footage of Presby Pip Can you please confirm these statements are accurate and based on the photos and discussions we had that the installed for this project is not a remote vent. The installed vent/vent manifold is a typical low vent/vent manifold tr https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&view=btop&ver-1 m2vssdml sn02&msg=%23msg-f:1739718973282461615&attid=0.1 1/1 9/20/22,4:28 PM 20220809_123110.jpg i .e s c Y F r v Y: +a hftps://mail.google.com/mail/u/O/?tab=rml#search/851+johnson/FMfcgzGpHHPncgpgktKglHrcPFwBbKdL?compose=GTvVIcRwPVIMRnMSWkHvrsbp... 1/1 9/20/22,4:28 PM 20220809_123116.jpg _ f 5 ; https://maiI.google.com/mail/u/0/?tab=rm1#search/851+johnson/FMfcgzGpHHPncgpgktKgIHrcPFwBbKdL?compose=GTvVIcRwPVIMRnMSWkHvrsbp... 1/1 Morin-Cameron PROJECTADDRESS Est l1tJdN, /• N.
