DOLAN 812 Chief of Department To: No. Andover Planning Board From: Fire Chief Dolan Re: Site Plan -- Lot B Charles Street Date: March. 2 0 , 1986 BOARD I have reviewed the plan submitted by Thomas Neve for Charles Street Lot B and have the following comments: 1 . The plan submitted does not show the design and appearance as required in the site plan review 8 . 3 "plan requirements" (d) . It is important that the type of building and its type of construction be known in planning for fire protection. 2. Access is limited to two sides of the b.uilding. In a building such as this where unknown commodities will be stored, this limited access negatively impacts fire protection. A 360' access around the building is what is needed. 3 . The building must be fully sprinklered in accordance with MGL Chapter 148 Sec. 26G to include a fire department connection. 4 . Fire detection systems must be installed as required by the Fire Chief and these systems must be connected to the municipal fire alarm system through the installation of a fire alarm box. 5. the developer must contact the fire chief regarding items 3 and 4 as to requirements for both fire suppression and detection systems. 6 . Any underground storage must comply with state and fire department regulations as adopted February 1 , 1986 . 7 . The fire department must be notified of the intended commod- ities to be stored since the type of storage will affect fire protection. 8 . An additional hydrant is heeded at the proposed entrance to this building and Charles Street. The last hydrant is on Charles Street in front of the UPS building. An additional hydrant for fire protection is also needed to the right side of the building on the edge of the pavement between the 56 and 58 elevation marks. This hydrant should be protected by a barrier approved by the fire chief. T intend to attend your April 7 meeting. William V. Dolan "SMOKE DETECTORS SAVE LIVES" r'• Du e v r PtalMad r r
