HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-11-17 Old Center Historic District Commission Minutes DRAFT OCHDC Meeting Minutes for November 17, 2022 Meeting called to order at 6:44PM Motion made by Mike Linihan seconded by Martha Larson In attendance Mike Lenihan Leslie Frazier Martha Larson Ryan Schruender Harry Arzonian 800 mass ave continuance James warden presented the plan for the new signs with the proposal of how the wording will be and sizes Mike Linihan asked why the cottage will be changed from white to the red brick Stanlambert said he thought the building will look better Leslie Frazier asked about the past colors and is they are still thinking that Stan stated they will be either going with the black and gold or white and black Stan also stated the white and black sign is easier to read Leslie asked if there is a way to make the gold and black sign more legible. Stan stated maybe but know the white and black is easier to read Leslie stated the sign on the academy road side is white and black but is fine with the proposal Martha Larson said she like the white and black sign for the Johnson cottage and she likes the black and gold for the brick building Ryan Schrurender said he likes the white and black for the white building and black and gold on the brick. Harrystated he likes the sign Ryan asked about fading which Stan staid the material will limit the fading Harry asked for an exact material to be used and exact colors for the signage. Stan said they are going to try and match the sign in front of the Steve Mike Linihan seconded the motion Motion passed 5-0 The discussion moved to the wayfinding signage for founders building All members stated they prefer the square black and gold signage on the side of the Johnson cottage Mike Linihan made the motion for the black and gold square sign on the side of the Johnson building Leslie Frazier seconded the motion Motion passed 5-0 Mike stated he liked the sign as presented Leslie said she likes the sign Martha like the sign and the wording Martha asked about the sign riders and why they are there Stan also stated he does not want to make these sign too complicated and to keep it pretty simple James would like the ability to change the hangin signs for different Events Harry stated he wants to avoid having tons of signage in front of the building Ryan asked about the wording and does that match with their marketing plan Leslie Frazier made amotion to approve the sign as presented with the black background with gold lettering with granite posts with two riders hanging below the sign Harry Seconded the motion Motion passed 5-0 Public hearing for the cert of appropriateness for 36 Andover Street for the installation of roof top solar panels Martha Larson made the motion to open the hearing Leslie Frazier seconded Tim Rich Beacon Solar presented the package for the solar panels at 36 Andover Street Harry asked about the inverter whether it will be interior or exterior Tim said the inverter will be interior Harry talked about the visibility from the road on the panels.HArry is worried about years down the road if any trees on the side were taken down these panels on the back would show a lot . Harry also asked on the rear left side of the roof if the panels could be stopped so half way down the roof to present them from being seen from the street. Mike asked about the materials if it is shiny or flat Tim said it would be black not sure if shiny or matted Harry asked about how far off the roof it would be . Tim said about 3 inches Harry also asked about putting the panels over the porch on the flat roof Tim said they can look into it. Mike said his preference is to have the panels as much to the end as possible to blend in as one and not see the difference between the roof and panels Harry talked about granting a continuance to get answers to some of the questions Mike said he did not agree with doing a continuance and thought what is proposed is ok Leslie brought up 135 Academy road and how the panels are visible Harry asked where does it stop within the district James warden mentioned that property is much closer to the street. Harry brought up the point any structure that has panels in the district that can be seen from the street are not historically old structures.This structure would be the first historical building with panels that you can see from the street. Leslie asked about a time crunch for the home owner Nomi the home owner said she would like to get this project done before winter hits. Martha stated she does not want the continuance and would want to make a decision tonight. Leslie said she would be ok with acontinuance or making the decision tonight. Mike Linihan made a motion to accept the application as presented with the inverter being the basement Leslie Frazier seconded the motion. Motion passed 4-1 with Harry being the nay vote Old business Harry street outside of the district. Harry stated our committee should petition the town to get the utility company to move the telephone pole on academy road near the northparish church Motion made to adjourn the meeting by Mike Lenihan and seconded by Ryan Schruender Meeting adjourned at 8:15
