Attendance:
Members Present: David VanArsdale {Chair}, Lucius Michel {Vice-Chair}, Quentara Costa

Dr. Harry Kaloustian, Remo Zimbaldi, Allen Naffah, Eileen Elliot, Tallie Abernathy,Maria Rosati,
Patricia Riley,Priscilla Raposo, Joan Thompson
Absent: Jennifer Abou-ezzi
Others Present: Kathy Shelp, Director of Elder Services; Paula Lynch, Administrative
Secretary;
Cahla Ahlstrom, Outreach Manager/Assistant Director; Lya Morse, Program Coordinator
Call to order: 8:35 AM
Roll call by Dave VanArsdale.
Minutes:
December motion to approve minutes by Dave VanArsdale. Simple name spelling corrections
suggested. Unanimously seconded and approved.
Update on Senior Center,Kathy Shelp:
• Building Update: The first half of furniture is coming in February, the other half in March.
• 30% of$100k goal met from The Friends fundraiser. 10%from Enterprise Bank, the remainder
generally from senior center attendees.
• 12-13"'of May for Spring Conference"Tools for Independence,"will be held at the new building.
A speed artist will be keynote for Friday night. Greg O'Brien will be keynote for Saturday. Greg
is author of the award-winning On Pluto:Inside the Mind ofAlzheimer's.
Year-End Review,Dave VanArsdale:
• Dave ran through the highlights of the year related to the CONs collaboration with the Senior
Center and community at large. The highlights include advocacy measures taken by the COA
based on concerns brought by local seniors, info-sessions by local town representatives and third

parties related to town-wide concerns (electric bills, Royal Crest development,Pickleball courts),
and general involvement in town-wide events that bring awareness to the center and COA.
Advocacy Sub-committee Update,Lucius Michel:
• The Sub-committee is drafting a letter to various local representatives congratulating them on
being elected.
o Outlines the challenges the senior community faces.
o Defines the goals and successes of the advocacy sub-committee.
o We ironed out who is signing the letter within the group.
Adjournment at 9:10 A.M., motion by Harry Kaloustian. Seconded by Maria Rosati. Unanimously
agreed.
