MINUTES OF MARCH 6, 2023 MEETING
In attendance: Ron Rudis, (Chair); Stan Limpert; Jay Dowd; Jim Wefers; Kathy Szyska; Anne
Ericson
Absent: Jan Williams
I. The minutes from the meeting held on January 17,2023 were read and accepted.
II. Ridgewood Cemetery Board Request
A. The Board has asked the NAHC to write a letter confirming the historical significance of
the barn
1. Ridgewood plans to repair the Giard barn on Ridgewood property.
2. The barn will be used for storage primarily.
3. Repairs needed include shoring up the basement, improving drainage, and roof
repa i rs.
B. Ridgewood plans to request $350,.000 in CPA funding.
C. Jay Dowd made a motion, seconded by Kathy Szyska to approve the letter. Approved 6-
0.
III. Stevens Coolidge Estate
A. Two representatives from The Trustees of Reservation requested that the NAHC write a
letter to the CPA Board confirming the historical significance of an art preservation
project needed at the Stevens Coolidge Estate.
1. The funding will be used to preserve two murals, one in the central hall and one in
the ballroom. The murals were painted in 1918 by the Spanish artist, Ramirez.
B. During discussion of this request several Commission members mentioned that in
recent years regulations and fees have made the Estate much less accessible to North
Andover citizens.
C. Stan Limpert made a motion, seconded by Jim Wefers to approve the letter. Approved
5-1: Rudis—yes, Limpert—yes, Wefers—yes, Dowd —yes, Ericson —yes, Szyska - no.
IV. 400 Great Pond Road
A. Commission members reviewed and discussed the issues relating to 400 Great Pond
Road
B. Options for the lake property now town-owned seem to be either complete demolition
of existing buildings on the site or the possibility of using a part of the existing structure
as a Town recreation facility.
